Hello All! I will be taking delivery of a 1991 Q45T with 85K in about 10 hours. I've been reading the posts in the room the past week and should have joined earlier. Car is being sold by a mechanic from a very reputable auto repair shop in CT. Don't know if timing chain guides have been done. I've read some of the posts and am concerned. Otherwise car is beautiful and in great shape. He has replaced rear shocks, steering rack and air conditioning. Also, I'm in CT, and with winter coming, can I wait until Spring to put in Transmission cooler? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Against my better judgement, I did not have the car inspected by a second party, but these guys did a lot of work of my '88 Porsche 924S i used to have and have quite a reputation to maintain. I trust them about as much as I could trust any auto mechanic. I'm in sales and if this mechanic is conning me, then he's the best I've seen (car was for his wife). Also, very mild engine vibration at idle, probably motor mounts.

Thanks in advanceHope I can sleep tonight :)

You should sleep well. Have him document all maintenance he has done, then run the VIN at a dealer, but it will probably be necessary to go through Infiniti Customer Service to get the rest of the dealer performed maintenance history.

Once you finish reading through the posts, you will then know what further steps need to be performed.

Welcome to the club and happy reading.

Welcome, downtempo!

Brian's advice is sage. When you get the car, take some digital pics of the front of the engine, from several angles up close - Dennis MIGHT be able to analyze the RTV long-distance and tell you if the guides have been done. If they haven't, we can walk you and your mechanic through that job as well.

Vibe at idle is likely dirty TB and plenum or a few dirty injectors (easily remedied). Motor mounts are likely shot, as are front shocks - We can help you get them at a HUGE discount. Hold off on trans cooler until summer, then order a B&M 70268 from Summit Racing.

Spend the weekend reading the Infiniti Online Mechanic, and you'll be the 3rd-most educated Q owner in CT. (1qckser and Qdog live there as well).

Glad to have you aboard - Can't wait to see pics of the new Q!!!!

It sounds as if your getting a good deal.....

Get your transmission cooler next spring, and I would recommend installing it INLINE with the stock heat exchanger since you live in colder climate.....

You should have said something earlier.... A NICO Q member probably could have helped you out......

Vibration is probably something simple......

more than likely the vibration wouldn't be maf centered. Check the knock sensor(s) and its never a bad idea to clean the throttle body. Use your ecu for diagnostic purposes although sometimes it doesn't show you your problem. Motor mounts could be a problem, but your engine can shake with brand new mounts. I would personally check the knock sensors and base timing.

Altiman brought up some good places to look.I also want to add, what I feel is the most common cause of uneven idle.Injectors.

rare to have them all in perfect shape.Might wanna try some Chevron techron cleaner or ValvolineSynPower injector cleaner.that may not solve your problem tho, but using high detergnet gas may also help.

Even in CT I would still bypass the stock heat exchanger compleytly.makes for less chance of a clogged heat exchanger reducing flow a very common problem.

In 94 some minor improvements were made to transmission cooling ( actrually starting with late 93's which were amde side-byside with early 94's).

The improvement does not come close, to the installation of a transmission cooler in effectriveness.
