O.K. so I decided to wait till i was 18 to buy a nicer car. (have an s10 truck) After a lot of research, I have decided that the 240sx was the best imported car for me. (RWD, well balanced, light, good looking, power potential. same reasons all of you bought them)

sooooo basically i need to know what to look for and what to look out for.

I would really like an RB25DET (looking to mod but not so much on the internals so i figured i would get the one with the stronger motor.) in the car and am kinda figuring that it would be a better option to buy a car with the swap already done. (i have done swaps before on a 3000gt and a spec miata i just figured it would be less expensive to do it this way) Any tips on this?

leaning toward the s14 kouki (or front end conversion) or s13 coupe with a silvia front end conversion. Any comment on that?

I am mechanically competent but obviously not as well informed in this area as some of you

so like i said any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated.

-future 240 owner

p.s. if any of you have a 240 that are kind of like what i want for sale post a link so i can see it

Check the mounting method (mounts, driveshaft, etc.)

Wiring, don't want this portion of the swap to be messed up, or you'll need it redone.

Hopefully, parts like the timing belt, waterpump, clutch, are replaced as they tend to be "not-so-fun" while in the car to work on.

Look out for Overheating issues

Look out for Blow-by

Whats your budget? I might have a 400whp+ RB25 Coupe I can sell you for cheap... email me

If you are looking at any s13 (the car itself) always look uner it for any kind of rust. s13s ar known for rust by where the exhaust comes down on the frame rail, the front and rear strut towers where they mount the the frame and up the approns, and also the rear frame rails by where the exhaust mounts. lastly the rockers rust out bad.all of these need to check out or you will not have a good base to start building on... learned the hard way with my first s13!Good luck man, its well worth it in the end!

Look at a bunch of cars before you buy. Don't get emotional about something you see. "You get what you pay for" NOT ALWAYS TRUE. There are some good buys out there if you keep looking. Read up on the swap. You can always get the car first, drive it around, fix it up, purchase your engine or get a turbo upgrade, swap engine later.

I would get the S14 and go for the SR20(S14). Check out the build in my signature.

Good luck and welcome to NICO.

haha, I here ya.Being different is cool, but, usually the reason that something is so popular is that it just makes sense. I'm not talking about a sweater color or something that is marketed and advertised, just mechanically, agreed?Look at all the options for the SR/RB swap, look at the prices, that's pretty cheep compaired to the RB26/2JZ.

Sounds like you are on the right track, ask questions, you will figure it out.

yea i know the sr is less expensive but i was reading about them on a thread and someone made a really good point

RB=skyline=someone who paid a lot of money for their car so they probable took more care of it

SR=silvia=someone who paid a lot less and beat on the car

plus the rb was built better

Thanks for the supportand when i get one, i will have to come show you haha

Although I may be very biased I would hope to shead light on this assumption.

Cars are toys regardless when it comes to this game. Bigger boys, bigger toys. So someone had more money to spend to play hard thats all. I know with my first SR I babied it because I couldn't afford anything else. Same would go with anything else for anyone else for the most part.

Either engine you go with or route you take, these are all mechanical things that were used (some being used more or abused than others).

Be mindful of what you are looking into buying and always expect the common nature of this hobby that nothing is going to be perfect... unless you go RB (HAHA Just Playing had to throw that in).

(btw, just got your email, I'll be able to reply later on)

Look on ebay or autotrader. There are usually 240s with RBs already swapped into them and you can get them for a reasonable price. RB25 in an S14 could be had for $10k or less. OR you can buy mine for $27k

personally the 2jz swap i dont think is any more costly than doin a rb26. Just not done as often so there is less info about it.
