Hey everyone, Wanted to say hey? I am new here, Also just picked up my first 240 '91. Its white.Looks good.Definately needs some TLC. Picked it up from some punk kid who didnt know what he had.Threw him a couple hundred bucks and drove away lol. Been browsing around trying to do my research and see what others preferences are and what they like to do to em..Ive been working on a ford probe 95, that ive had a while. But the 240 is like a whole nother beast. I am gonna wrap this up here by throwing out a few questions, looking forward to responses. Thanks in advance.

First? What is everyone using for spark plugs-as well as brand and weight oil w/filter? First thing to do is give this girl a serious tune up!

Also i think the clutch is gone but as i was just reading on here somewhere it may be the master or slave cylinder. heres diagnosis. It will not go into reverse at all, doesnt click into reverse--it just wont go also as i was driving it home i kept missing gears i thought cause i grinded every gear(yes i know how to drive stick lol) then i realized it when i downshifted into second it just wouldnt let me it was grinding away..would it be best to go ahead and install a new clutch or???

And any other tidbits of advise as far as modding and just upkeep throw em out there. thanks and sorry for such a long post.

well first let me say welcome from all us niccoheads that hang on the forums...now that your abandoning that Bailout takin FORD for a real car.. ..ill pop some advise your way!...just so ya know...us import guys get on average when fully tuned turbo motors about 6 to 8hp per cubic inch..unlike the ford guys only gettin 3 HP per Cu..maybe..with that said...#1.)seafoam that bi%&tch..clean er out top to bottom then change all of the fluids..#2.) If the engine has low miles on a rebuild i would sugest full sythetic oil and a quart of lucus oil treatment...some prefer enos or redline and even torco..but do dont skimp on fluids..buy the best of what ya can afford.#3) NGK spark plugs and wire's and while your there..new cap and rotor..#4.)last but not least..a simple trick for a better running ride.....Run a large ground wire directly from the batterys negative terminal to the engine block..you will notice a nicer idle ect..just a small trick..

hope this helps and if ya have more questions..by allmeans..search the forums and if ya cant find the answer..then post again sire..

welcome to nico man.

as for spark plugs, i use ngk...so yeah. For oil, i just use royal purple 5w-30...its good enough for me lol. Also that lucas oil treatment is really good imo.

Edit: Since you're trying to do a tune-up, would suggest getting new spark plugs and wires, cap, and rotor too. That'll be a good place to start, it will definently save you from....oh lets say, getting stuck at an Albertsons parking lot cause the car wouldn't fire...and having wait there for 2 hours before a tow truck arrives and then finally get back to the house at 1:30 am and realize it took over 3 1/2 hours to get a mountain dew. fml.

welcome to nico man! glad to see another 240 owner... ( not meaning there is not enough on here... ) i jus bought a 240 myself and in the process of gettin it runnin... post some pics of your ride... we'd all be glad to see it...s13 love... im guessin that happened to you... ... vtguy... the clutch sounds to me like a master or slave cylinder... i dont know if there is a way to check them without just buying a new one and seein if it fixes the problem... but the master and slave cylinders will be less than the clutch...... but before you buy them... check the fluids and make sure there is no air in the lines... itll give the same problem... update when you got time man... and welcome to the boards... again... ... ( jus saw that one and had to use it...

Thanks alot guys. I appreciate the excellent comments. I posted here as well as in the 240sx/silvia forum and got a horrible response even kinda bashed no idea why lol. Thanks for making me feel not feel like i stumbled upon the wrong forum, like i was in a Civic forum or something. Any how i will check the transmission fluid and maybe bleed the clutch that is my biggest concern right now. cause i wanna get her on the road but dont want to until i get the clutch working and shifting good as of right now it is like grinding and missing every gear. i go from second to third and it grinds into third. i downshifted to second or tried to and it didnt want to go it grinded away, until i almost had to slow right down to a stop before it would go into gear, and it wont go into reverse at all. ??? i took some crappy pics with my phone but cant figure out how to post them up here lol. brain fart today.

its not everyday you hear of someone grindin into 3rd....it might be your syncros in the transmission..there is however a driving type style that may help with the upshift...its called a "BLIP" just before the up shift you push the clutch in and rev the engine high to try and match the rpm base....this is a fast rev before a fast shift..not a long rev..with some practice you will see what im talkin about.....on the down shift some call this a "Heal to Toe" couse of the braking used or a "Blip" depending on the drivers racing prefrence..it should help you get into gear till you can fix the problem...good luck.

Thanks,,ya liquid cool that was what i was wondering cause it was grinding when i just tried shifting normally, i like to blip it when i shift and i tried that and it helped a little but the down shift sucked lol. ive heard of the heel to toe thing , give a little insight as to how to do it, if u want of coarse . i ran sum seafoam and changed oil car is running good, just got to get the shifting fixed, wondering if changing the clutch would do it or is it gonna need a new transmission instead of just clutch,if i could do one or the other that would be better for me but if not then oh well.
