well i just got a 95 240 auto and was thinking of dropping in a motor like in a year or so. wanted to change the transmission to and was wondering if i should wait till i get the motor or if it would even matter? also wanted to get a paint job on the car and a body kit. was thinking of getting the paint job first but should i just get it with the kit? any replys would help thanks!

first search

then get the kit before the paint job

and yes the engine and transmission usually matter... so i'd say get both at the same time.

well i know the place where im getting my car painted charges up the @$$ for panel painting, the guy told me that straight up, buy everything you want painted and install it on the car right before you get it painted. that way youll save money, and not look like an idiot riding around with primer body panels.

Additionally the paint matches and flows better when the kit is on it first. However, I would say for the price you'll pay for a real/decent body kit instead of a knockoff, and a decent paintjob instead of a Maaco job, you may as well do an engine and transmission swap, because you'll be much more fulfilled with that then you will putting a kit and a paintjob on a car that already looks good stock and being a 95 probably already has at the very least acceptable paint. Enjoy your day!

It depends what engine you want to drop in. If you want to replace the stock KA, then i believe any KA transmission will work. But most people choose to swap in either a CA18DET, RB[20/25]DET or a SR20DET. The SR is prolly your cheapest way out, but your going to learn so much in a year that I'm not even going to address this. Moral of the story, engine and transmission at the same time, because a KA transmission doesn't work for w/ a SR, etc. and when people do swaps, they usually order a front clip that includes engine/transmission or just a motor package that usually comes with engine/transmission/ecu.As for the paint, I've seen it done both ways. I've seen a lot of people paint the car, order a body kit later, and then spray paint the body kit. As ghetto as it may sound, sometimes it's really hard to tell. Sure they're not getting a professional quality job, but if your in the poor house like most students, etc are, then money is a major factor. (I'm not endorsing spray paint body kits, just tellin' ya). My 2 cents: engine/paint at the same time/same shop. They could pull KA engine/transmission out, paint car, including engine bay, drop in SR/CA/RB, and get good results. major down side to this is u need all the money at once :-(
