Ok I am new to the import scene. I have always loved boosted cars and the sound! Anyways I have recently got a 1991 nissan 240sx. It has a sr20det engine with 5spd. transmission. It has a custom vmount intercooler setup. The boost is running at 14psi on the stock t25 turbo.

Anyways the car runs fine and nothing is wrong with it. I usually do tuneups to the vehicles I get just to be safe. I am probably about to do a tune up. Any help will be greatly appreciated! I am looking for the best horespower/performance capable of doing a tuneup.Well my questions are as follows:

#1 What is the best plugs to get?Brand? Do you have part numbers?#2 What is the best plug wires to get?Brand? Part numbers?#3 Best oil to use in this engine???Brand? Weight? The engine has around 80,000 miles (give or take)#4 Best oil filter? Brand/part numbers?#5 Also if I put some kind of oil treatment ( i was thinking a can of engine restore) Would it hurt the engine or turbo? It is supposed to free up some extra horses and help the engine but.. This is the first turbo car I have had. The turbo uses the same oil as the engine right? Would it hurt to add this to the oil?#6 best air filter to get??Brand/part numbers??'

Is there anything else to do that may help the performance or free up a little more hp?

Also I believe this car still has the catalytic converter. Would it hurt anything for me to take it off and fill in the space with pipe? Would it help with performance???

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!Thanks,

1) NGK Iridium2) NGK3) Oil is debatable. Alot of people run Royal Purple, Mobil 1 or Redline. Best weight is probably a 5w30 or 10w30.

5) stay away from oil treatments. Oil is very carefully designed and researched to do the exact job that the manufacturers intend to do. If there was some magic additive that freed up horsepower, than I am sure the oil companies would want to include it in their oil in the first place. Don't mess around with your oiling system

Please please please please pretty please search! If you had of put any of those terms into the search box, you would have gotten your answer.

1. Denso Iridium (Imo)2. NGK, taylor, magnecor3. Amsoil, royal purple4. Mobil 1 (M1-204)5. meh6. Debatable, kn&n drop in or injen/aem ram or cold air.

Project Nissan and ebay have test pipes to replace the cat, only hurts the trees, but theres a lot of em, so carry on.

Remember sr20det,14 psi daily,v mount setup. 5 spd. 85,000 miles

From searching I am assuming......

Oil: Mobil 1 but what weight????? Im in north alabama if that makes a difference? Also there is particular names of the mobil 1. Which name should I get example: High mileage, full synthetic etc.??

Oil filter: Mobil 1 oil filter

Plugs: NGK Iridium but it said something about numbers? heat numbers? What number would be best? Also what would be the best gap???

Plug wires: you have a part number? I am assuming ngk plug wires would be better compatible with the plugs.

oil treament: So dont mess with it?

Air filter: It really dont matter as long as its a name brand cone filter?

The more boost you run, the cooler your plugs should be. Running too hot of a plug can cause detonation.

In my opinion, I wouldn't really mess with oil treatments. There is too much at stake to experiment with that sort of thing.

As far as air filters are concerned, I heard the oiled filters can wreak havoc on your MAF. Regularly cleaning the MAF would be a good idea.

every 100hp+ you go, you go colder 1 step at the plugs. a t25, you're fine with the stock setting on those.

Don't use the oil treatments. just a bandage for something that's messed up if you've got to use that to make some sort of difference.

Check the parts thread on the SR RWD section. Plug wires on an SR20DET? I'll bite my tongue on that one...

many use 10w-30 unless you've a particular reason why you need a heavier or lighter weight oil.

oem oil filter. look it up on the parts thread.

test pipes do not do much for performance. You'll have fun with a blackened bumper, possible fines, knowing that you have contributed to global warming for the sake of "oh I can get another 1 hp! zomg!" in addition to putting more crap that could and should have been scrubbed into the air that will contribute to the rest of our kids having other ailments from the air long after the fad of modifying your car goes away. Many tests regarding this from options to magazines stateside. I've used both test pipes and catalytic converters. Frees up for the most part nothing. If you want a better hp gain, do a tune up and check your timing.

Let me know if I made good choices.....

Ok I ordered these for my plugs... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...&rd=1

They are gapped at .030 is that good???? I also got the heat range 7. Is that ok??? Im running at 14psi everyday.

I got these plug wires http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...&rd=1

This oil filter http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...&rd=1

I ordered one of these too: ) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...&rd=1

Now anyone have an air filter they recommend???

Any ideas of what else I could do tuneup/maintainence wise to maybe help with performance and free up a little more horses.

I'm far more disturbed that everything has an ebay link.

1. The IX's are fine. You could have also contacted frsport directly through the advertiser directory...

2. the sr20det does not use ignition wires...it uses coil packs...those look like something you'd see on a ka24de...

3. those oil filters are kinda expensive. I bought a case of oil filters at less than 5 a filter from another Nico sponsor.

4. those magnetic drain plugs are dunno what to say about those on an SR. It's mainly an aluminum engine but does have a few iron based parts running around. I do see a little bit of stuff on it once in a while when I moved that drain plug from my ka to my sr back in the day.

5. filter ARC if you've money, otherwise go with Apexi.

yeah man, just go out and buy stuff from a store. Much easier to return if you have problems.
