I'm pretty much new to mechanical jobs. I have changed starter motor and did few other light weight works on my s13.A friend's Taurus stopped on the street because it's steering wheel suddenly gave up. You know, how Fomoco cars makes noises with their steering wheels as they age up. Not just because of my friend's car, I am experiencing a mild shiver on the steering wheel when cruising at around 55mph. Once slowing below 50mph or going above 70mph, shiver stops.

I want to take a look into my steering to prevent myself loosing my steering wheel. Need your advices.

What are the importants parts on steering system that I have to check? Just name me some. I have FSM and once you tell me what parts to look for I will study more on the FSM.

Thanks!

You might want to check to see if one of the little weights on your wheels fell off. You most likely just have unblalaced wheels. About 8 bucks at a tire store and they can balance everything for you.

That is definitely an imbalanced wheel. Take it to a tire shop and have it rebalanced.

I just want to do a check to see if anything in the steering system is about to fall apart or not.

Thanks every one for telling me that I got an imbalanced wheel.

if you goto a general repair shop they can show you how to check your wheel bearings, tie rods and ball joints. Those are the major parts you want to check out to prevent loosing the use of your steering wheel so to speak......as for the Fords they have crappy power steering problems and your friend probably just experienced a broken rack or maybe a tie rod.

Let us know how things go
