New to this forum, but not forums in general. Looking at purchasing an 06 manual coupe next week (hopefully). I consider myself to be somewhat mechanically inclined.

The coupe in question has under 70k, but no maintenance history. The seller swears that he is meticulous, but has only needed to perform regular maintenance (brakes, oil changes) during his ownership. When he purchased it from a dealer they provided no documentation. The car has a clean Carfax.

My question is what are some of the specifics I should be looking for related to these specific cars? I searched! It appears some of the links in the G35 FAQ are broken. Specifically the "Tips & Tricks" which sounded like they would be right up my alley.

I plan to look over the car pretty thoroughly, as well as have a shop local to the seller do a compression test. Appreciate any help. If all goes according to plan I will be an active contributor to your community!

Thanks,
Matt

If you are doing what you say you are doing, you will be doing more than most people do when buying a car. Long sentence. Also check for sounds for wheel bearings. Check clutch and look for leaks.

60k is a "young" g35 engine... and he probably really only had to do general maintence as my last two Gs never broke down. I had my 2005 g35x up until about 72k miles and it ran like new, and I am harsh on my car tracking it every chance i get. they only thing i can immedialy think of to watch out for or ask about is a oil leak problem on to one of the spark plugs... i believe it was the 2006 coupes. (you probably saw that in the FAQ section)

if the seller halfway maintained his G 60k is nothing to the engine. Now i would ask about the transmission fluid being change at least once in that 60k miles. if it hasnt been changed thats an extra cost you would need to factor in. (make sure you get the Matic S transmission fluid, NOT the Matic J as it was replaced by Matic S)

wait you said coupe, well clutch fluid being changed... :chuckle:

if you care, id also change the rear differential fluid at about 60k also.
