i keep hearin piggy back this, standalone that. but i come from the honda world. so, like with hondas, is it not possible to just socket the stock rb ecu's and have a chip burned for them(eprom)??? or are they eeprom, allowing a simple reflash style of tune? or am i forced to go standalone/piggyback such as e-manage

i'd like to stay with my stocker. and is there a program for doing this? nistune ive heard of, is that for tuning factory ecu's?

If you can't tune, don't have a wideband or don't want to take any chances. Then you should see if Carl H will chip and burn you a tune. He's a good dude and knows his shyt.

If you are a DIY er then you can chip and burn yourself or easier would be nistune.

There's a power FC if you can find one for a not butt raping price. Or AEM or haltech, microtech,Hydra, etc etc or you can get a Motec exhaust and just be done with it. :-)

These are my thoughts, i have no tuning experience yet, so take them for what they're worth:

You might as well go with nistune. I hear time and time again that the stock ECU is great for controlling the engine for what 95% of the guys on this board are capable of financially.

It's something like $4-500 with license and board so you really can't beat the bang for the buck. Get a wideband and some sort of knock sensing device (you can wire the bosch ones with a resistor in line and listen thru your laptop) and then you'll be well on your way.

If you goto the nistune site they have a nice beginners guide to tuning. There is also a massive thread on factory ECU tuning on SAU. I've heard of lots of guys learning from scratch, but they all have things in common: they researched, had proper monitoring equipment, took their time tuning, oh and took their time tuning.

Good luck.
