Hey everyone, just got my Black '04 G35 Coupe 6MT a couple of weeks ago so I decided that it's time to go somewhere I can learn about my car.

No mods yet, though I will probably get an intake in near future. Unfortunatly about 4 days after I got my car I went out to eat on my break from school and when I returned some one had put a big dent in the lower part of the passenger bumper . Naturally I didnt want to make a claim yet since I had just bought the car and opted to do the repair myself.

Also have a few questions

1) For regular everyday driving what would be the ideal shift point 3K RPM?2) What are some good bolt ons as well as brand names? Lurked around here for a couple days and Stillen seems to be good.3) Is Sixth hard to get into by any chance or do I just dont know where it is yet? I do know where it is at though I have to shift slow to find it otherwise i'd end up grinding the gear.

im sure I have another question I just cant remember right now. Thanks for any help.

Welcmoe home! Hope you find the site helpful and accomodating.

You bought an AMAZING car, you're gonna love it!

As regards shifting, just do what comes naturally. You can wind it out, it's a durable and well-built motor. Regular and frequent oil changes are key.

Good bolt-ons to begin with: A Motordyne plenum spacer ($200, good for 12-15 hp), the Stillen catback (also good for 15 hp), and a Z-tube (buy from one of our OEM parts suppliers - see Advertiser Directory) for around $50, good for a few horsies. Stick with the OEM filter, anything else is not worth the $.

Sixth should be an easy shift, might be something to have the dealer peek at since it's still under warranty.

Again, welcome home!

Sorry to hear about the fender bender; that really sucks on your new baby.

MODS: Do the JWT intake ASAP! You'll love the intake sound it makes; in combo with the spacer, you'll see good HP gains. That and the Z tube are the cheapest mods you can do. The exhaust will cost over $1k-kinda hard to justify with a new-to-you car (I'm in the same boat). Get the Stillen or NISMO.

Shifting: DO NOT dump the clutch with the RPMs over 5k! The G has a safety mechanism that will force the clutch to stick. Rev to 4k from a stop, then 7k for each subsequent shift.

6th gear-I think I know what you mean. The G35 was my first 6-speed car, and it felt like 6th was down and to the far right...almost in Reverse. It just takes getting used to. Unless your really forcing the shifter, I'd say it's normal.

LOL...saw some game trailers for that, looks very cool. You should wait a bit though, price will be really high because of Christmas, retailers are gonna rape the public on the pricing. Game trailer for Africa blew me away!

Use to drive an '06 accord V6 with 6MT and never had any problems with it . It just seems like if I come straight down to sixth it grinds some where in between the shift. Maybe I just need to go more towards the right.

Also I remembered another question I was going to ask If im going 40 MPH and am in 5th gear would the lower RPM's give better MPG or would it put a lot of strain on the motor operating at such a low RPM?
