NewB? Sr20det identify engine

i have a black top sr20det in my s13 240 i recently bought, how do i tell if its an s13 or s14 black top? IM pretty sure its an s13 from what ive read but not sure.

looks like a s13 blacktop. The S14 usually have a slight slant in the back end. but im not really sure.

rc1, you're 100% correct. This is why guys who have spent some time in the SR community no longer call the S14s blacktops, and actually call the notch tops. (It saves confusion.) Your valve cover is flat, meaning it's an S13. There's a link in the FAQ explaining the differences of all the motors. What is the number on your ECU and we can give a rough estimate of what year car it's from...
