Hi all, newbie here (in Canada)

I've recently come across a great deal on a 1993 R33 GTS25t (with an RB25DET). Mileage is high, but I've had it up on a hoist and everything's completely stock (aside from a Nismo front strut tower bar) and is clean/checks out, compression test is perfect, leakdown test was fine, etc.

The problem with a great deal on a car like this is OTHER people are looking at it too! (which adds to the feeling-hassled factor of wanting to get it!). After several days of extensive research on the car, and finding out that there aren't as many parts available for the RB25DET as there are for the RB26, I'm beginning to wonder if it's "relatively" simple to swap an RB26 into it? I don't exactly want to deal with the hassle of putting the whole AWD system into it , and am wondering if it's possible for the RB26 to simply bolt up to the RB25 transmission? will the engine mounts line up/is there a kit someone offers? I'm sure I'll also have to put a bigger fuel pump in as well (any other things you can think of?) I'll likely be doing this next year if I pick up the car now...

Thanks for everyone's help and feel more than free to let me know about any other problems that could be encountered!

RB25 will get you 400hp relatively reliably. Not enough for you?

That's plenty, however this RB25 in it has 200,000+ km on it and don't feel too comfortable doing it with THAT particular one... The guy I'm buying from offered to swap out another RB25 into it but I figured, heck, if I'm already going to be going through a swap, why not pull out the big guns?

Do you think an RB26 is going to somehow have less kilos on it? Have the guy give you the spare 25 in addition to the car and build that. The 25 is a decent-sized gun and a gun in the hand is worth two in the shop.

well, all their engines have ~50,000 on it, which is certainly better than 200+ was just asking people's opinions on various forums what they thought. Most people are saying leave the RB25 in, but... it still doesn't change the fact it's got 225,000km on it and that's high for anything! Ah well

I can guarantee they are lying. My 95' pickup has 130000km.

You don't honestly believe a used engine, ANY used engine, that wasn't pulled from a car that got rear ended a month after purchase, has less than 31000 miles?

lol, a 26 will bolt up to the 25 transmission you have to switch from a pull type to a push type clutch. modify the 26 oil pan so it dosent have the front pumpkin on it any more and get the harness plugged in.

Or just use the 25 pan.

I don't know if your still looking for that Skyline. I hope you bought it! You can stick with the rb25. Plenty of ponies will come out of it. If the engine is a concern have the guy swap it. Besides if your gonna tune. Keep the old engine. You'll be rebuilding it anyway. Right?

If you don't get the RB25, get a TB48...I want to see one of those beasts in a skyline...
