newb question: tie rods + bushings?

Hey guys, I'm embarassed to ask this, but:

can somebody explain to me exactly what tie rods and bushings do? I know alot about auto mechanics, but I've never really worked on suspension before. I'm looking at this car, and the guy says it needs "rear bushings and right inner tie rod ends."

Could you guys possibly explain to me what these parts are/what they do, and what options I have (as far as cost, producs) I have for replacing them? I dont even know if this is a major thing or not....

please help!
