Hey everyone, I'm a newcomer to this forum and I'm also the proud new owner of a '98 Infiniti I30 with 144k on it. I used to work for a local Nissan dealer in the delivery dept. for a short spell and I learned a lot about the Nissan offerings for the 2010-2011 model years, but I'm a total newb as far as Infiniti goes.

I have a relatively good idea of the services the car has had over its lifetime, it was most recently owned by a high school-aged girl whose parents bought the car from their neighbor (the original owner), and they provided me with a pretty good service history.

I ended up having to change out the inner/outer tie rod ends on the driver's side to pass my state's safety inspection, but now I'm hearing a "click" when I either accelerate or brake. It stops when I'm rolling along at a constant speed, but any speed change I hear a small click/thunk noise on the driver's side. I know the driver's outer CV boot is slightly ripped (~1 inch tear that I found when inspecting before purchase), so I'm wondering if some gunk has migrated its way into the CV joint and might be the cause?

Any advice would be appreciated, or any tips/common problems on what to watch for as this car ages.

Welcome to NICO and congrats on the ride!

I think you're right about that sound, but I'm not the best person to ask but your assessment sounds correct.

Welcome aboard!
Usually CV axles only click when you have throttle applied and are turning.
If you can do some low speed parking lot stuff, maybe have someone outside the car listen in that area and see if that's where the sound is coming from.
If the boot is torn, you'll probably want to replace it anyway.
