well, people might make fun of it, but the drift bible does help.

here's what i do since i have a low powerd car.

say i'm entering a right hander, i'll swing the car real hard to the left, then as soon as the steering wheel begin's to become near center as i'm steering it back to the right , i give the e brake a tiny tug, then start feathering the throttle, at the same time counter steering.

thats how i got used to throwing the *** out and controlling it.doing that in a empty lot in the rain at low speed's is good also for practise.

i sorta under stand that ....but u said if u go for a right u turn hard left..u turn the wheel b4 the ebrake right ? so that means the car will take off to the left first i know ur wheels gotta be the opposite way of hte turn so u can drive that direction but just getting hte car side ways...i usually just throw the ebrake up n turn the wheels to the left ...but what do u mean of turning first????

wow ok

you are thinking WAY too much for a beginner.

this is what you do, get your hands on a copy of something called the "drift bible." the first part of the "movie" will show you the different ways to "initiate the drift." there are several methods and you just need to find out wich one works best for your car and driving style.

after watching the drift bible, GO TO A DRIFT EVENT. for the love of god do not drift on the street. please. if you MUST go to a very controlled area with no people. an industrial parking lot, late at night works but i do not condone street drifting!

my personal reccomendation is before you even try to drift, learn to grip drive. go to a SCCA event you have up there in the northwest. once you learn to drive on the edge of GRIP it will be 10x easier to drift. so many newbies just drift and never worry about grip driving, then complain about never being able to find the proper line around a racetrack once they get better and start to link drifts.

I just practice out in my field.Too bad my car can't get traction so most drifts are at low speed.

no no, everything kinda happends at the same time.

approaching right hander..

if it's hard to tell the center of the wheel is in all the comotion, take some yellow or red tape, and put it on the center of you steering wheel like the rally driver's do.

hard swing left..and as soon as my steering wheel start's to center "as i'm bringing back to steer right", i give a little tug on the e brake..and immedietly i start the counter steering and the throttle feathering.

i left out :"as i'm bringing back to steer right",..sorry about that.

yeah that makes more sense bud..not cutting u up ..i seen it how they throw the car one way back the other never got how though..so once u go left then right turn with the ebracke...whne ur side ways u would turn the wheel left again so u stay side ways around the corner right ?????....(drift)

yeah i drift well not really just stay side ways n ****..got good control of the car but dont do it really fast or stay side ways for a long time like i want too ... thats all...

well, when i'm going thro the corner, and exiting, i'm countersteering to keep "control", ..so it's hard to say that the steering wheel would be mainly to the left position.

to bad u live so far away, i have done ride along's with people before..they go with me and watch my hand's and feet, then we get in thier car, and i give them tip's while they try to apply what they learned by watching me.

oh, also, what i just explained is just two minor technique's i use to drift my near stock 240.

throwing the car like i explained is called a feint drift, mixed in with a little side drift wich mean's e-brake drift.

there are alot more techniques then those two, but, that should be good for you to practice with for now..

buying the drift bible on DVD is a good idea.

watch drift bible a few times, then really try to get to a track, and if that dosent happen just make sure no one is around and its in a secluded place. 'your practise session'. start small and work your way up, my first thing that i ever did w\ breaking the tires loose was a u-turn, just try to power over a little bit and see what happens, watch them curbs.

then go home and watch drift bible again and really concentrate on what the drift king is doing, its like a ride along with a pro....... watch how he compensates for a little too much then desired angle at entry w\ steering and how much throttle, watch his initial countersteer and how he leaves the corner so smoothly. Ive placed second in a local compeition, and for what i have i belive i am pretty acomplished for your genral 18 year old. with 11 months of drifting under my belt, im still learning from watchin DB.

that specific competition vid is somewhere in the vast library of cd-r's around my desk in 100pack spindles........ i doubt ill find it anytime soon.

ive gotten much better since then, i belive you replied in my thread of a june 3rd practice here: zerothread?id=121533

Practise makes perfect and keep going at it no matter what your setup is, at the particular comptition (ter-tech dec 5th 04) my car was open diff automatic. and i could have had 1st place easily but i didnt want to get bumped into proclass w\ my current setup, (default class increase w\ 1st place).

back on topic...... start small and work your way up, personally i think the first mod should be suspension, then a lsd. drifting with an open diff teaches you how to refine your entry steering angle to prolong your drift w\ a non locking diff. You learn how to initiate the drift more precise because you really cant mash the gas and correct with some extra lsd power that you could have. ive been driving this auto open diff for 10 months before i opted to get a z32 na vlsd. Holy crap what a world of difference even still with the automatic, im amazed with the new found abilities that i have with my car. Im finding my self learning more and more about throttle control with the lsd now. sustaining a long drift or combod sections with open diff dosnt require as much throttle control because even if you do give it more and more gas there isnt as much drastic affect w\ only one wheel spinning compared to two wheels spinning. all in all, work with what you have now and dont be afraid to kill a set of used tires in a week, be careful

yea, i hope scottykarate uses our advise wisely,..practice-practice-practice.

i've been drifting for a lil' over a year now, with a stock KA, it does the job for now.it has good enough throttle responce to get me through the corner's...feint, and side drifting also help's me alot..

i WANT a LSD soooo bad , i want to exsperience the difference first hand, but thier so damn exspensive!!!

well, my car is fine right now at my skill level with this setup here:

Tokico susp.kit(struts/springs)

H&R camber bolt's (not plates)...set at 1.3 neg. camber

Tein tie rod and tie rod end's

and for that extra whopping 5hp, an Injen intake...lol

i do just fine with that setup for now.

i've seen some dumbasses with to much money and so little skill.

this one guy, i'm not gonna say his name..put an SR in his S13, gave it ton's of horse power, and wonderd why all he can do is spin out and not hold a drift...lol..

ya, my ka is pretty much stock also, the 5hp injen intake is on my car also...... eibach sportline springs and kyb agx (adjustable) shocks, and i recently got a na z32 lsd. The power a lightly modded na ka has, is pretty suffecient for anyone that has less then 1.5 years experiance.

if you have some extra money...... a set of tie rods and ends for that extra steering angle, there are so many times im at full lock way before the turn and i would want more angle, mine should be in next week.

a vlsd will hold me over after im done with other things, and have ~900 to spend on a clutch type.

To piss you off, because the world revolves around you and if you say something it must be the right thing to do. However, since everyone sucks and we are godless savages, i.e. we don't worship you, we enjoy doing everything that you disagree with.

Grow up, Loveless... Stop wetting the bed, and move out of your parents' house.
