I don't really know my stuff about nissans cause I've been into hondas and what not. However, I wanna get a 180sx and pretty much make a sil80. But the first thing I do is get the car and plop an sr20 in there. I've been reading around for a bit and see that you people are saying the s13 is better. What's the diff between blacktop and redtop? Price difference? How much would a 90-94 240sx go for? Thanks and sorry again for the newb level questions.

The 180SX is only in Japan, it's basically the same as the 89?-94 hatch back. The 180SX stayed in production till the late 90's as the hatch back version while the coupe took the Silvia name (correct me if I'm wrong/inaccurate). There's a SR20DET FAQ that has some basic differences, but basicaly the red top has a high port head vs. the blacktop's low port head..so basicaly the red top has more power potential. I may be missing some things here, but that's the general idea. As for how much a 90-94 goes for...typically they are in the 1500-3000 range, but it all depends on the condition etc. Since you definately know you're going the sr20 route, I would say buy one with a blown engine, if you can find one, you'll pay less than $1000. I paid $2500 for my 95 S14, but that's cus it wasn't very well taken care of and had high miles, but I basically bought just the chassis to be my project car.

Oh, forgot about sr20 pricing...red tops are usually cheaper. I think the price on complete engines has come down recently too. A black top is only a couple hundred more usually.

Thanks a lot for the info. You know of any sites for SRs?

Yeah, but it's kind of hard to miss that big bright red search button when the page loads :)

There is an S13 Blacktop engine also... it also has the high port intake design. The changes are so minor, it's not a big deal, just ECU stuff. Blacktops are newer and more expensive.
