Just like to intro myself before I immediately start asking questions. My name is Trevor, I’m 27 years old, and from upstate NY. Last fall I began the endeavor of swapping a CA18DET into my car. I have no professional training in mechanics at all, I’m a straight up shaddy tree, back yard, do it yourself noob. So far, I have been lucky to achieve as much as I have. I’ve been through many forums to find solutions and ideas so I’m well accustomed to the search button.

To make a long story short, here are some pictures on the swap.

When I received my engine, the wire harness was pretty much destroyed. I have slowly gone through it and reworked it to the point where I can fire up the engine, and have it idle with no problems.

This is where I need help.

As of now all the air lines connect to my intake plume are open, as well as my vapor and fuel regulator valve. I have tried routing as shown in the diagram below, but routing this way just causes my engine to not start. Does anyone know a better way to route these lines as well as the two half inch lines on the front of the throttle body. Here is a video link showing the lines I am talking about.

Also, I’m not able to rev the engine at all. When I try, I hear a ticking noise from inside the intake plume. My wire harness is missing the terminal going to the idle control solenoid. I’m not sure if that is causing the issue, or the MAF. When the car is running idle and I remove the MAF terminal the engine dies. Would the idle control solenoid prevent the engine from revving?

Thanks for any answers or insights!

the first one you pointed to is for the wastegate acuator. Run a hose from there to the little nipple on the compressor housing on the turbo. there should be one there.

Second is for the cold start. Run a hose from there to a nipple on the cold side of the IC piping. It doesn't look like you have one on there so you will have to weld one on there. drill hole first, then weld on a nipple that the hose can go on to.

Third is for (what I'm using it for is) there is four little metal lines in between the 3rd & 4th intake runners on the same side. from top to bottom.

1. Not used2. fuel pressure regulator3. butterflies4. Not used

From that vacuum port on the back of the intake, Get three little rubber hose and a Y adapter. Put one hose on the vac port. then put your Y adapter on. Last, take the other two hoses and run one hose from the Y to the second metal line from top. then run the other hose from the Y to the third metal line from top.

Last one is kinda hard to tell.

Hope this helps. I have pics if that will help better.

Here is the pic for the nipple on the wastegate acuator.

Here is the pic for the vac port and the 4 metal lines.

I can't get you a pic of the 2nd one you pointed to because I took mine off. Hope this helps alittle bit more.

Hey Quincy, I happened to notice your rack and pinion, where the hardlines go into for the powersteering, is open and not plugged? Or am I just seeing things? Anyways, can't wait to go back to a ca. Soon to come.

I just purchased a manual boost controller for this part. I haven't installed it yet, but the install diagram looks like this.

This shows to run it directly into the wastegate, so I'm assuming I should plug the port on the turbo? Or should I connect it to both?

This is what I'm using, but without the gauge.

This was very helpful, thanks! I don't have any experience with welding, so I'll be taking this down the our local turner shop and have them tap it for me. Dumb question, but just to make sure I'm positive, the cold pipe runs into the trottle body, and the hot pipe runs from the intercooler into the turbo?

Now this I'm going to spend a little more time on. I still have my carbon canister from the ka18de, would there be any benefits on using this with those lines on the ca18det?

The last thing that was hard to make out, are the fuel pressure regulator, and the vapor regulator.

I actually removed those steal extension lines. I can't remember if I kept it or not. But I prolly just cause more trouble for myself.

Also, one last thing, which line would be best to tap for the boost gauge? I know any air line from the intake manifold will work, but I'm not sure if any are better than others.

Thanks for the help, I'll be working on this all next week. Hopefully, I can make it drivable - can't wait to get it on the road!

No your not seeing things. They're not plugged. I was going to plug them. I still got to get the car registered and inspected.

on your question about the IC piping yes the cold pipe goes to the intake mani and the hot pipe runs to the turbo
