Hi all, just picked up a 1990 300zx 2+2 NA, black with 154k on it. This is the second one I've owned, the first was actually 20 years ago, just after turning 25 I found a 1991 TT with 43k on it and God did I love that car ! Unfortunately 18 months into it I lost the job that was paying the $589 / month car payment, and lost it shortly thereafter to the repo man :(

Its good to be back behind the wheel of what I consider to be one of the most enjoyable cars ever produced. Sadly I took it for emissions testing today and failed miserably. HC's were almost 50ppm over allowed, and CO% was at 3.03 +
Any ideas where to start, I'd rather try and fix myself before taking it in somewhere.

Here's some pics, before I do any mods ;)

Nice find! I'm new into the Z cars myself but I have to completely agree that my Z32 is the most enjoyable drive out of all the cars that I've owned or driven. Don't feel bad about the HC numbers, my limit is 180 and my cart tested at 4862 (not a typo, even the emissions guy thought the test was wrong at first).

Do you have any plans for what mods you want to do?

Welcome to NICO!! I can't help you with the emissions side of things. I live in Louisiana and we don't have emission testing so i'm not very familiar with the subject.

Well since it is HC and CO it means you are not getting complete combustion.

Could be a lot of reasons.

Spark plugs, O2 sensors, dirty airfilter/MAF sensor, worn out cats, fuel injectors...

I'd start by checking the spark plugs to make sure all are in good shape. Clean the MAF sensor and air filter.

There is a technique to check the O2 sensors you can find using google.
