Hey guys how's it going. you might have seen me on the 240sx and general chat forums and every so often on the Z Forums well i got a 1986 300ZX Turbo i got it For FREE from a friend he just needed to get rid of it. the body is in really good shape as well which is a big deal here in wisconsin. But thats the good as for the bad he said the turbo is blown or bad and he says that it leaks oil alot. i was just wondering if you guys could point me to a stock turbo or a slightly upgraded turbo or if since the motor might be bad just gettting a new turbo motor or maybe the new 300zx motor if that fits? what do you guys think i should do....i know you guys prolly hate having to awnser these posts but what do you guys think also is there any other seats that people put in there Z31 since the seats are in VERY BAD shape well thanks in advance !

if I were in your shoes I'd try locating a complete motor (turbo and all) from a wrecked Z31 in your local salvage yards (expect anywehre form $300-700) if you can replace the motor as well as the turbo in one shot it leaves less room for error and shoud make troubleshooting a bit easier, you can always upgrade the turbo later but thats gonna cost $600 or better just for the turbo!as for seats I rather like the stock stylye I'd try finding better OE seats (junkyard again) I've heard of some people upgrading to the Z32 style if that spins your wheelsyour best bet would be to find a running when hit complete car, you can get your motor, turbo, seats and if you get an 87.5-89 you can get the clutch LSD as well not to mention all the smaller oddball parts you can use or sell to offset the cost

I am sure the seat tracks will need a bit of modification to fit but I doubt it'll be a major ordeal, as for the z32 parts you might want to put up an add in the classified section, the 240sx guys love the brake parts and diffs

you could put in a RB motor.

I know the japan z31 came with a RB mototr. i forget which one and such but that coule be a possible motor option. even tho the stock turbo motor would be the option i would go with.

if you can find a ZR200 front cut it shoud be pretty cheap as it's the less desirable RB20DET and it'll have all the parts needed for the swap, might not be as cheap and a replacement motor but it's an option

Just find another VG30. It will be much cheaper and much simpler and provide more power than the RB swap.
