I LOVE the new 370Z in every aspect. I want one. However, A MB V-6 diesel powered 370Z? That I'm not so sure of. Why is Nissan going to ruin a good thing and start putting MB power plants into all of their vehicles? It's like Formula 1 all over again...

I don't even care if it gets the V-8. I hate MB engines. Hate them. I've worked on my fair share, old and new, and I don't care for the company one bit. The day Nissan abandons the VQ platform for MB engines is the day Nissan dies in my book.

Nissan is apparently writing a new book, it's called " How to make a reliable, inexpensive car to maintain into an expensive POS". If they go with this MB engine idea only the wealthy will be able to afford the maintanence costs. I guess Nissan REALLLLLYYY wants to prevent it's customers from voiding their warranty.

Nissan is beginning to look dead to me now. I guess the past is the only safe place for me to live.

noooo, carburetors. Trust me, your idea is better; balancing those things is a straight b****.

I can't even imagine. Never done any work on a carb'd vehicle. Even my 87 Yota was EFI. Carb's just seem like a PITA.ut then again, I don't know a ton about them.

Back in the day when the Zs would come out to race they always came out an hour early to jet and rebalance the carbs. They could do it pretty quick but these guys had been doing it for years. Sidedrafts have a ton of adjustments which are great for squeezing every last bit of power out at every operating point but if you just want the durned thing to run they make you want to shoot yourself.

And that's why I like my fuel injection. :chuckle:

Actually, I would love to play around with an old carb'd motor. Just need to find one.

I loved jetting and balancing my bike and I am pretty good at it but it's nice when your ride to work is EFI and starts every time.

EFI hasn't failed me yet. Well, except for that time my fuel pump died in the middle of an intersection....

as for a mercedes engine going in a z factory? doesnt bother me that much.... the nissan L series is a direct copy of a mercedes engine from the 50's that was used by prince and they kept when they switched over to nissan

They dug up all the Crossfire parts from the Karmann factory and said, "Lets try this again"

This is the first good news about Nissan I've heard in years. Mercedes has been making the best F1 motors for quite some time now, their powerplants have been in Lambos for years, an Merc powered Z car would be great! I can only imagine how this came about...

To: FIA President Jean Todt
From: Nissan
Subject: HLP PLZ!

Mr. Todt,

We at Nissan have never made a dent in FIA motorsports. How could we go about cracking into the big leagues?

V/R,
Nissan

Ross,

Want to let Nissan in on how you turned Honda around?

Cheers,
Todt
