Hey everybody. I currently own a 90 240SX hatch, but I have decided to go a different route. I love the 240, but want something new. The frustrations of an old car have just become kind of tiresome. I test drove a new Z yesterday...good god it is amazing! I love that thing! I'm going to drive my 240 until about June so I can clear up some credit card debt and save up a big fat down payment. Then I'll either be buying a used one or a brand new base model. What are the biggest advantages to buying one of the higher level packages? 350Z's freakin ROCK!

350z = Nissan Crack.

I'll let someone else go into the difference between packages though.

I take it back. I've spent a good amount of time researching the Z today, and have been pretty surprised with the reviews. People replacing tranny's 3 or 4 times in 20,000 miles and having to replace tires every 10,000. I commute about 70 miles round trip every day, so the though of replacing my tires every 3 or 4 months is definitely not acceptable in my game plan. That'd be more money from the upgrade parts funds. I think I'll keep my 240 for now and enjoy having it paid off. One of these days a Z will be mine! (once they work out the kinks)

I;ve had my BFgoodrich Gforce T/A KD's on for 14 thousand milse, it looks like I'll get 20 out of them,

and the tranny issues get covered under warranty...

Also, per some converstaions with some mechanics, a lot of those issues stemmed from the consumer putting GL-% into the tranny, which corrodes the brass sychnromesh amongst other things (this i why you use GL-4...) because of the friction modifiers....

What year is your car? Do the tire problems only apply to the 2003 and 2004 models? I just want to make sure this car isn't going to serve me a big dish of unreliability. It'll be 3 or 4 months before I buy, I just want to make an informed decision.

2005. If the 04 has the alignment set to the new specs, and the tranny is in good shape, you won't have any problems. There's a reason these cars got awards for initial build quality.

Actually a friend of mine has a 2003 and the tires are no longer an issue because the camber was way to aggresive. He also had to have the rear end replaced, window motors, and one rim(because of the guys who worked at the dealership banged it up). As far as i know the 2004 tranny's were beefed up from the 2003 models. the tires aremore of an issue if U get anyone with the 18's because the only way to rotate the tires is to have them taken off the rim and remounted, otherwise you cant rotate them.
