I am looking at buying a 1996 Nissan HB 4X4 king cab-4cy-5 speed with high miles for $2700.00.......................the only thing that is holding me from buying it right now is the high miles: 239,000....... I need your opinions on this purchase and the miles.

By the way, i just bought me a 1996 Nissan pathfinder 2wd last night...my wife fell in love with and claimed it as hers, so i have to look for me another one.........

thank you for your opinions and time,

BD

If it was well maintained, you can probably get another couple of years out of it before it needs work. Assuming the body and interior is in decent quality, I would say the price is pretty fair. King cab and 4wd is harder to find as it is.

If you don't plan on thrashing it, I would say grab it. 300k+ on these engines isn't uncommon as long as they are treated decently.

Can't beat the 2.4L for reliability. It's not going to set any land speed records and I am not a fan of OBDII but overall they are good trucks. Pre-1996 trucks are easier to work on IMO.

Mileage is not as important as condition of motor, crank it cold to listen for tell tale rattle of timing chain guides from front of motor. Check the oil condition, open the cap on valve Cover and use flashlight to peak inside to see if top end looks clean no sludge. Get cheap compression tester and check all 4 cylinders, takes no time as all plugs are easy to access. Check inside radiator for any build up, can see with flashlight from the top. Just give it a good once over. Drive it with windows down NO RADIO listen for any weird noises see how it drives shifts make sure it is not pulling to one side. Get under and inspect all the rubber bushings boots etc.
