Purchased a 2003 M45 back in October 2013. First fell in love with the Y34 when I saw one parked in my neighbors driveway. "That things looks expensive" Was all that came to mind when I first saw it about 10 years ago. The unique body lines truly makes it stand out in any line up. It has always been one of those "cars you dream about" for me. Searched for a little over a year to find this one. Out of all of the ones I test drove this one was by far in the best condition and lowest miles. As you can see from the photos it really is quite spotless for a 12 year old vehicle. Car was always serviced at the dealership so I have full service records. Besides getting home and buffing out the headlights it didn't need a whole lot of TLC.

72,XXX miles
Brilliant Diamond Silver

I apologize for the obvious screen shots but its the only way i could get the photos off of the dealers webpage.

My Review:
This thing hauls some serious butt! It is hard to believe that this big-ole-fo-do sedan can still get up and compete with a lot of the newer vehicles. Turn off the VDC (or remove it like I did) and you can leave some serious rubber on the road. Especially if you light them up around a corner you can easily fill the wheel well with smoke. It doesn't happen often but this car will chirp in second gear. This car isn't the fastest right off the line but from a roll it can seriously launch you back in your seat and is a serious highway stormer.

The suspension is slightly stiffer than I expected so it doesn't float like a Cadillac but most certainly out maneuvers one and still offers decent ride quality. I will be ordering a BC coilover set soon enough so this should hopefully change the handling because I'm sure this still has the original struts so they are probably near the end of their life anyhow.

To anyone purchasing one of these vehicles do be aware of the blue smoke at start up. Mine has done this from day one and has gotten worse since I started using synthetic oil so I will soon be reverting back to a standard oil. I'll be installing a catch can to hopefully resolve some of these issues also. I highly recommend you change your spark plugs if you purchase one. It made a great performance increase and they needed serious changing. Also check your throttle cables just under the engine cover and make sure there isn't any slack in them. I did perform the VDC removal (found on this forum) and it does really help you to toss the car around. The car used to bog down to around 2-3k rpm after the tires started to spin. Especially in a turn when the fronts are making far less revolutions then the rears. Now they stay lit up and spinning until the cows come home. I also recommend the IPOD hack (found on this forum). I installed a Fusion BT1000, a bluetooth modual, instead of the aux cord. The wireless connectivity is much easier and is just as simple to install. Also purchased some new JL subs and tossed them in the back and removed the stock subwoofer to let the sound through the rear deck lid. I did replace all of the interior lights with LEDS which helped brighten up the interior and to give it a more updated look.

I did have a headlight go out in the second season I owned it. Infinity wanted 250$ for a pair... So i found a local HID specialist and found a pair for 100$.I also replaced the stock fog lights with 4,300K HID lamps but they blind everyone on the road so I'm afraid ill have to remove those as well. Has onyone had any experience with this or know what i can do to resolve it? I tried to adjust them downward but it made no difference, the light is just dispersed everywhere. I did replace the trunk gas shocks which on almost all of the models i test drove none of the trunks opened under unassisted power.

*WARNING* When i got the car i de-badged the "M45" and the glue from the emblem was embedded in the clear coat so I will be forced to put the emblem back on. Took it too a few body shops and everyone claims it was put on when the clear coat was still tacky so it cant be removed. I also removed the raised "Infiniti" lettering above the rear license plate to find out that the chrome bar had a clear coat sprayed over the lettering so when I removed the lettering the areas where the letters were didn't have this clear coat.. So now i have a ghosted "infiniti" in the chrome bar that needs to be redone. Go figure that one gave me problems too.

Things to come:

Rear Roof Spoiler (will color match)
JDM window visors (Will color match)
BC Coilovers w/ swift springs
MRR HR3 Wheels 20"
2 10" JL subwooders w/ custom enclosure
Custom Exhaust
(Experiment) Brake Switch Removal to do brake stands :naughty:

The car is placed in storage during the winter months here in Minnesnowta so I probably wont have any new updates anytime soon but i'll be sure to let you guys know how to projects went.

Please let me know what you guys think and if you have any other recommendations on what else I should work on to improve her. I've learned so much from this forum and appreciates everyone's posts that help me with my upgrades.

Very nice! Same color and year as mine - although I have few more miles and the outside is not in great shape due to dings, etc. Just over 175,100 on mine ... :yesnod

I don't have the rear wing and mine has one more rare difference - no sunroof! I actually like this, since it gives me more headroom and less electronics to go wrong. Of course, any resale value would suffer because of that, but I bought mine in Sept 2003 for the long haul, so not worried about resale!

Welcome to NICO!

Where did you get the Fusion BT1000 and how did you install? I found a youtube showing the Bt700 that plugs into the satellite plug of a Fusion stereo or the the BT100 that uses RCA plugs.

I purchased this unit here:
http://www.westmarine.com/buy/fusion--m ... --14819817

Follow the instructions for the iPod hack here:
http://www.freshalloy.com/showthread.ph ... PICS-FIXED!

Once you complete the hack insert the 2 male RCA plugs into the 2 female RCAs you create from the hack. Tap into the negative and positive leads from the stock head unit to power the Bluetooth module and you should be up and running. I'd say it's easily less than 2 hour install even for a noticed. Just be sure to install a 3.5mm jack adapter to convert the 3.5mm jack to 2 female RCAs. It works great for me.

Thanks SL33P3RM45. I didn't know if you would still be monitoring this forum. I have read through all six pages and will definitely give this a shot very soon. I may need to purchase another tape deck first. I attempted to use a cassette adapter but the unit kept trying to "flip" the tape. Something must be amiss internally. I have since purchased an Bluetooth / FM Modulator from Amazon for $18. works surprisingly well but not what i want. I have always installed systems in my vehicles (48 yrs old) and passed this along to my boys. Hard to get used to being limited but I really like the car and think it will be worth it.
My first consideration was the unit that jacks into the SAT feed in the trunk but not sure it is worth $150 or as much fun to hook up. Unless it will display info on the factory screen this method is much more affordable.
I am also considering moving the factory display to the tape location and installing a double din unit in it's place up top. Non moving touch screen so it can fit behind the factory trim. This wont happen until summer but if i decide to tackle i will do a write up with pics. it will be my first but should be worth it.
thanks to all who contribute and keep it up. Merry Christmas.
