So for the two and a half years that I've owned my qx4, I've been driving with three chips in my windshield, caused by highway driving. No big deal, but they were noticeable, and pretty annoying. Also, the windshield itself was pretty etched, with its 150,000 miles of wear. Anyway, I got home the other night, stepped out of my toasty car and went to bed. In the morning, after removing the foot of snow from the windshield, i saw the huge crack that had formed, connecting the three little dings in the windshield, extending all the way across, and right in the driver's line of sight. I guess that's what happens when freezing snow falls on a 70 degree piece of glass with existing damage I called safelite and they came to my house and replaced the windshield in less than an hour. Really convenient, and I'm so glad to have a nice clear windshield. $300 installed, but I needed it... my christmas present for myself happy holidays everyone

Isn't this usually covered by your comprehensive coverage? Also, isn't the deductible for most comprehensive plans $0?

Every time my mom or brother got a chip in their windshield it was covered under comprehensive and insurance would send Safelite out to have it repaired at no cost (and no increase in rates).

I busted my windsheild 2 years ago...there was a gnat buzzing around and refused to go out the window. Well he landed and i didnt even hit him that hard but it cracked my windsheild BAD. My girlfriend said i had anger issues, but i think i just found a weak spot. Anyway safelite did a price match and it was only 160. And whats wierd is the one without the antenna is more expensive. Good thing i had the antenna i guess.

I still have my original windshield in. There's a couple long cracks on it, but they're below my line of sight, so I've never even thought of replacing it. I do remember replacing my passenger door window... for the next month I'd always look over and think the window was down, the damn thing was so clear. I couldn't imagine a nice, pristine windshield... it'd look so clear that I'd be scared of bugs hitting me.

Could be different in the US, but in Canada there is indeed a deductible on comprehensive plans. All comprehensive insurance means is that it covers pretty much everything... but you can set your deductible to whatever you want.

if you would have got the chips fixed and filled with the resin it wouldn't be very noticeable and you'd still have 3 hundoe in your pocket.

I know that on my comprensive, there's a deductible, EXCEPT for glass breakage.

Densetsu: Would that crack be below the line of sight of a short driver? My late wife had '68 Firebird 400 ragtop that had a low crack. It was belowline of site for both of us, but not for a short driver. After about eight years, she got a fix-it ticket for it. I'm not saying "go fix it", just "don't be surprised".

im sure it depends on the insurance company but i declined window coverage. i was trying to pinch pennies at the time i started my policy because my monthly payment was $278. i didnt really want all the little bells and whistles.
