Hi All,

I need advices, my Z running very good and now I would improve the grip and braking. For braking I will install a set of track rotors from the 350z. For that, I have to change my stock wheels by a set of 17 or 18".

In France we can fit only two size on the rear, 245/40/17 or 285/30/18. For tire in 245 the best width of the rim would be 9.5 and 10.5 with 285 (maybe 10j?), right ?

Put 17" wheels it's easy, I find a lot of topics about that. But fit a set of 10.5jx18x285 seem be more difficult.

my mods are
- Nismo 740CC
- Ash piping with massives SMIC
- single pop charger
- RPS max street clutch with flywheel
- SpecialtyZ chip
- S-tech springs + KYB AGX + front camber kit (control arm are all arround stock)
- stock turbo with new CHRA
- mike smith manifold
- AVCR set on 16PSI
- etc...

So I have 3 questions :)
- to keep performance it's better to take the way of a set of 17" rims with tires like R888 ?
- install a set of 10.5jx18x285 on the rear but what about the offset with stock control arms ?
- install a set of 10jx18x285 with an offset between +39/+45 ?

Thx

Welcome!
In your case going with 17" wheels to clear your brake rotors is probably your best and easiest course of action, as 285 width is pushing things without coilovers and adjustable FUCA/RUCA's to adjust for any clearance issues. No Continental tires available in France? Or Hankook? I run Powertrix coilovers with 255/40/18 in front and 275/35/18 Conti's in the rear (have run Hankook 275's for years) on 18X8.5 Enkei's which clear well, but is close and I can see possible issues with stock components and an offset that doesn't work correctly for the car. BTW, the 285's would indeed need at a minimum a 9" wheel so 9.5 would be fine.
Hope this helps, and be sure to use our wheel and offset guide in the "Everything you need to know" sticky.

Thank for your reply.

Continental and Hankook are available in France but we can't fit what we want. We can but each two years we must pass car to a "technical control' and size of tires are reglemented.
For the size 245/45/16 we have only 3 possibilities:
- 245/40/17
- 275/35/17 ==> size unavailable
- 285/30/18

We can fit another size but at each pass of this control we have to replace the tires with "incorrect size". So remove the track brake rotors and reinstall the old stock wheels. It's possible, maybee the better solution than install 245/40/17 ?

I'm sure of one thing, I don't want to change for coilover and adjustable FUCA/RUCA's ... :)

Wow, what a hassle. Sometimes I think US laws are restrictive, and then I hear about stuff like that. I understand why they did it, but that seems like an overreaction to the stretched tire stance scene.

So what I'm gathering is that you have to stick to those sizes due to the outer rolling diameter staying within spec?

There's a setup running 285/30/18 on 18x10.5 wheels. Unfortunate part is he didn't put any notes on roll, liner trim, or anything like that, but I'd assume you'd have to at least do a roll. Also looked like he used some massive spacers, and I'm not sure what your thoughts are on that.
