hello everyone, I'm new to these forums after recently purchasing a 2006 Infiniti G35X of a lease. Its in great shape and I absolutely love it. I have a question regarding new wheels and tires. I apologize in advance if this is a newbie question but I'm not exactly car savvy and havent cared much about my cars in the past due to the fact that they were nothing worth writing about.

Anyway, I live in Canada and therefore require winter tires. I got a few quotes on new wheels and tires and they told me I may require new sensors for the tires and that would add an additional $500-600. My question is, are the sensors necessary. I realize the TPMS light may stay on, but other than that is it required.

One last question, how do you guys feel about black rims on a black infiniti? Thats what Im looking at. Thanks in advance.

The stock wheels that you have on the car now should have a set of pressure sensors in them. The shop should be able to swap over your existing sensors to the new wheels/tires you buy. It should be no big deal.

Post pictures of your car and the rims you are thinking of purchasing... then we can give you an opinion of how we think it will look. To expect us to give an opinion of such a general idea is hard. Some black on black combo's look fantastic, and others look ugly.. depends on the wheel design, the car, and of course, everyone's own personal opinions.

Thanks for you reply. This is the car I have and the wheels Im looking at. In regards to swapping sensors, i will be using my old wheels on the winters and the new ones on the summers so I cant swap back and forth twice a year with the sensors, or can I? If that makes sense.

I think those wheels will look nice on that car!

I see now why you need new sensors.. You'll have two sets of wheels - summer/ winter.
I would keep your eye on the classifieds section of this site and a few other forums to find a set of used tmps. Buying them new is very expensive, but you can usually find them used for a pretty reasonable price.

Heck.. here's a set on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/07-09-Ni ... ccessories

Thank you very much, you've been very helpful. Is there any way to determine if a set of sensors will fit your car if you know the manufacturers number? Like some website where you can plug in the number to know if it will work or not. Again, sorry for these rookie questions.

I have to be honest.. I don't know about compatibility issues between sensors for different models. One would think Nissan/Infiniti would be consistent with the application, but I don't know for sure. Hopefully someone else can chime in with an answer??

I'd just call Infiniti and ask if the sensors are the same for other models.

I highly recommend checking the on-line tire dealers such as Tire Rack. They will list which TPS sensors your car will have and may even offer a reset tool. Check the classifieds as someone from Canada was selling a set of winter wheels in the not so distant past. I'm contemplating the same set up with my 07 G35X as I would like a set of winter wheels too.

The sensors aren't necessary and if they are missing from the other set of wheels it will just thrown a low tire indicator light. It will not affect anything, except the annoying light. If you can live with that for a few months, then it will save you some money.

If not, check the classifieds as these show up on occasion. I may have access to a set, but would have to check.
