Sooooo...posted this in Altima suspension etc. with no traffic, so here goes.

Just got my new wheels, installed them Wednesday night and have been driving them steady since. Im noticing quite a "wobble" or vibration once I hit about 60+ MPH.

Now...I just had my Eibach springs installed about 3 weeks ago, so Im due for the mandatory second alignment since they should be settled in. Supposedly the new tires were balanced when they were mounted by the distributor I bought them from (there ARE weights on the inside, so they at least tried). I have an alignment scheduled for tomorrow morning. If this shake doesnt go away, any ideas as to what the culprit might be? Wouldnt be alignment and SHOULDNT be tire balance, although who knows. Ideas folks?

if you get a wobble around a certain speed, especially 60mph... and your transmission is not the culprit, which it most likely isnt..... your wheels are out of balance ;)

either wheels aren't balance correctly or your lugs are not tighten. Check those out first and go from there.

Did you make sure to install the correct/any hubcentric rings if the bore size of your new wheel is larger than stock? If you did not, that is quite possibly the culprit.
The easiest place I found to buy them was on amazon.com

Hub rings are on, lugs are tightened to 87 ft/lbs. I highly doubt its the tie rod ends because there was no problem when I was driving the stock wheels earlier in the day I installed the new ones.

Looking like its tire balance and that REALLY pisses me off because now I have to pay someone else to balance them when they were supposed to come balanced. Car is at the shop now for the alignment, I guess I'll take it for a highway spin and go right back to them to balance the tires. Gotta love online shopping...

Thanks everyone.

Where did you purchase the wheels and tires from?

Discount Tire Direct. They had the same wheel and tire package I was looking at from Wheels Next and Element Wheels for about $300 cheaper.

Just got back from the shop, it was the balance. Also just called Discount Tire and they are crediting my CC for the amount I paid for the re-balance. It was entirely too easy, they didnt even fight me on it. Im guessing it happens often and they are used to it.

First run back on the highway all seems good.

Thanks all for the help.

Yea I'm not the biggest fan of buying a wheel and tire package and already mounted and balanced from an online vendor. Problem in my opinion is that most places (especially disount tire) have such a tiny selection of tires, plus you dont get the feedback from the tire guy as far as whats a good tire.

Bump back to top...

So I thought I had this all straightened out. When I drove home from the shop Saturday there was a bit of traffic so couldnt really get the car over 65MPH, I thought all was good because the wobble was hitting at around 60MPH and I was above that. Today on my way to work I get up to around 70ish and the damn wobble is back. I bring it back to the shop and they re-balance everything. They even re-calibrated their machine beforehand, only the front driver side tire was off by 0.25 oz. This is really starting to become aggravating, does anyone think the hub rings could be to blame? Other than that, Im out of ideas, no issues with the stock tires, I throw the new boys on and I feel like im riding in a washing machine. :wtf2:

try without any hub rings?
Hub rings plastic or metal (if plastic, maybe they are warped)

Did you rotate them to find out if its one or all of the wheels causing shake?

Rings are metal, I didnt try without any hub rings, but I thought that would be a terrible idea? They should be centering the wheel, without them I should be worse off, no?

I didnt rotate, they balanced all with Road Force machine and they are all good. I guess I'll try taking the rings off but that just doesnt seem right to me. I was concerned with the tiny, maybe 1/2mm lip on the rings. Thought that could be keeping the wheel from sitting 100% flush on the hub.
