I didn't know where else to put this...and it is a form of media...

Anyways...I've always been way into the series since back in 7th grade when I read the Eye of the World...and that was what, 13-15 years ago? I then read each and every 800+ page book...loving every minute of it until I hit the wall at the 11th book. And then he died!

Haven't even BEGUN the Final Battle and the series no longer had an author.Until his wife collected all his notes, scenes, and musings and shoved them over to another author AND THE DRAGON REBORN WAS BACK. (Minus one hand) The last book has been written but it took up 1500 pages so they split it into three separate novels.

Haven't had a chance to read it yet...only gotten past the forward. And what I've gleaned from that is the new author intends to conclude the series in his own style...I dunno how that will pan out but at least I'll have closure.

BAD. Bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad.

No, I have not read it. But there has NEVER in the history of EVER been a case of "author dies, leaving grand epic unfinished, new author steps in to finish it for him" that did not end HORRIBLY.

I have not read any of the Wheel of Time books. I do not have to. I PROMISE you, if you are a fan of the originals, reading this new book by another author will only lead to misery.

This is the same thing that happened to Dune. Herbert died with one book left to finish. And his moronic son invited the King of Terrible Sci Fi himself to help write that book two decades later, using his father's notes. Only they didn't JUST use his notes. They threw in all sorts of random s*** they came up with independently, too. Stuff that had no prior significance in the series. And their version was HORRIBLE. It was not Dune. It was so bad I couldn't finish it. I stopped reading it halfway through. I would have expected better from an online fan fiction contest.

And that is exactly what you can expect from this new-authored WoT. Your experience for the series is best left undefiled. Leave it to yourself to imagine the real ending. Don't let some jackass who isn't the real author of that story tell you how it ends. Even if it IS good, it's not the ending the real author would have penned. Because he didn't write it. Some random other dude did. Not the mind that envisioned it, not the mind that created it. Some other dude. Not compatible.

Haha...well I have almost finished the book thanks to thanksgiving at the grandparent's.I'm far from dissapointed and at times I was almost able to imagine I was reading Jordan's own writing. Now, i read his last book over 2 years ago so take that with a grain of salt...The new author has the same habit Jordan did of describing every inconsequential detail...describing the dresses the Aes Sedai wear for EVERY f***ING SCENE...which bugged me a little bit but I soon learned to speed read over those parts.I'm satisfied. As long as the series is finally concluded is all I care about, and it's starting to get wrapped up very nicely. The series is so long because of Jordan's habit to go into great detail the goings on of the over 10 main characters. Now...after 11 600+ page books those characters are coming to the end of their journeys and actually accomplishing stuff. So, I'm grateful that the series didn't just die...that would have sucked. But I do wonder what Jordan himself would have written, as Im sure all the fans have.

Oh and Jordan DID write the ending and many scenes before he died. So all the new author is doing is working around that and his notes to form a coherent conclusion to satisfy all the rabid fans who wanted blood.

This brings me to my next point, which also is inspired by my incredible disappointment with Anderson's juvenile Dune finale:

If the original author has sections of the book and notes already written, instead of "finishing" the story, why not just publish the notes and drafts? That would be far more interesting to fans than a fresh interpretation of the story by some other dude. Or, at the very least, publish the notes WITH the new interpretation/finale, so we can understand how the new novel evolved and how the original author's vision looked before it became corrupted by crappy cliche sci-fi authors and their perma-adolescence.

I have also read the book and even I agree to your views. The book is very much touchy.
