Hi guys getting there with rebuilding this VH45, currently rebuilding the heads at the moment and some of the hydraulic lifters are not comming out, some of them came out with great ease but others just wont come out.

I can get the others out, but they will most likely be wrecked when doing this.

My real question is, can i buy non-genuine ones? because i have asked nissan australia and they are $88AUD cost and $110AUD List ex Japan which might not sound a lot, but when you need 32 of them, its working out at just under $3000AUD for lifters!!

cheers

Might be better off getting another motor. I've got a spare in the shed I just keep for parts as they are a bit scarce in Aus.

John Dixon made solid lifters, maybe if you ask him nice he will point you in the right direction or give you a drawing...

Still cheaper to buy a new motor and just swap the new stuff onto it or the other motors heads onto your current motor if they are gonna run you that much. How many need replacing anyways? if its only a few I guess suck it up and buy new ones but if its a number of them I would definately consider pilliging a spare engine or even getting in contact with some wreckers in u.s. and seeing if they will sell you some.

Probably cheaper to buy an old oven, put the heads in until they are toasty, then try and remove them.

Find a tool (90 degree needlenose) or something that gets a good grip around the little indented ring near the top of the lifter. With some good wiggling/penetrating fluid/heat you should be able to get them out with out damaging them. Other than that I would suggest getting some used ones from the jy and cleaning them up.

Yep, you'd think with a lot of INOX and a pair of vice grips they would come out OK. I didn't have much trouble with mine, some where a bit stiff but not too bad.

PS, how many Aussies do we have here now!

I have a special tool that worked great to get a couple of mine out.

I welded a pair of vice grips to the end of a slide hammer. Then I just clamped the grips down on the top nipple of the lifter and one slide got 'em out. Don't give up. They can be a pain in the arse but they will come out.

Im 99 percent sure thay are not the same, however making them solid is very simple task, as is with sr20 lifters.

FWD SR20DE HLA's are the same as the VH45DE, excluding the BS plastic seal ring that the VH45DE HLA's have.

And from back in 2005 when I was just starting to tinker.....
Raxephon wrote:I take back my previous statement concerning the HLA's on a '92 SR20DE being the same ones in the '91 VH45DE.The measurements are the same, but the opening in the tops, (of the HLA's), are larger for the SR20DE.

Also, HLA's on the VH45DE have a seal of sorts, towards the top of the main body.
