Not sure how I managed to miss this post.

Congrats on the new 'vert! Looks like a pretty solid clean body. I think with some work, it'll be a great car. The engine bay looks clean and tight.

Keep us updated on the progress!

thanks guys, those pics where the first night i had it. there was no comments all week so i thought i was blacklisted or something! i will get some pics now that i have cleaned it nicely. of course it's pouring down rain right now. i am probelly going to be selling it, because i have been making good money buying and selling cars lately. but i have to admit i don't want to. both my girlfriend and my roomate want me to keep it. My GF hated my old 240, but she loves the vert!

the plexiglass wasn't a good idea! the girl i bought it from said she locked her keys in the car and they cut out the the back window! so she replaced with plexiglass. well i proceded to try and put it down. crack!!! whoops i removed it all now and just have a hole. i couldn't have waited anyway, had to drive it with top down.

driving with the top up sucks. When my rear window cracked I still drove with the top down...nothing a little scotch tape couldn't handle (until the crack got bigger ).

Ya...it worked for a while but it was hella ugly. That's when I got my window replaced.

I'm surprised it worked for two seconds... maybe you mean Scotch 'brand' rather than 'type' though.

I taped the inside and outside of the crack...multiple times. Seems to have worked because no water got inside. It was strong, but not strong enough.

I punched a hole in my back window last year when I tried putting a 6 piece body kit *inside* the car to transport it to a body shop. I used some scotch "brand" packing tape to patch a hole about 1 foot by 8 inches. It worked better than the original window. :P

For the record, there is a guy on eBay called "cartopguy" that specializes in convertible tops. He can even have them custom made with higher quality materials than what normally comes on the vert stock. I got mine with the higher quality material (same material that is used on Jaguars) for only $480 including shipping. I installed it myself in under 2 hours and it fits GREAT, went on almost completely painlessly ( I had 1 glitch when trying to remove the old top which I resolved by drilling out a rivet and replacing with a wide thread screw) and I couldn't be happier. In fact, I have received compliments on the top itself for how well it fits and how nice it looks. I highly recommend "cartopguy"!

You changed your top in under 2 hours??? How? Do you have pics of this anywhere?

Sorry, I didn't document the process. I hadn't become a member here until recently and am still pretty new to the tuner scene. From now on, I will be documenting everything I do to the car.

Just so you know, the top I got from "cartopguy" on ebay came with installation instructions which is all I had to go on. I used that, a socket (10mm?), Phillips #2 Screwdriver, stapler (not the kind you find in an office, the kind used to fix fences and screens on windows), and a drill to drill out the rivets that attach the steel cable that runs through the edges of the top and connects near the windshield (hope that made sense, you'll know it when you see it). After drilling out the rivets, I simply replaced them with a short, wide thread screw (wood screws work awesome here!).

And yes, the whole process took less than 2 hours. I had NEVER replaced a convertible top in my life and had NO help from ANYONE. The top looks GREAT on there and I have had several compliments on the work I did. I am still a n00b to the tuner scene too, so let this be a confidence booster to the rest of you out there looking to replace your tops!
