Hello Everyone I have recently acquired a 1992 240 convertible and have been having trouble with a couple of fuses. The Cigarette lighter fuse, the room lamp fuse, and the electronics fuse all continue to blow as soon as they are replaced. I have searched for touching wires or anything out of the ordinary and cant locate the problem. the car has an aftermarket stereo and alarm system but the wiring seem to check out.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

They blow as soon as you plug them? or when you start the car? or when you turn on your headlights?

First things first, just unplug the radio from the harness. Eliminate any aftermarket possibilities.

Beyond that, you are just going to have to go at it w/ a multimeter & see if any positive wire is continuous w/ ground - i.e. you can start @ the fuse spot and see which side is grounding out or getting too much voltage.

That's it. Do it ASAP before you blow up the TCU.

Bust out the FSM wiring diagram and go at it, it's the only way.

If you aren't comfortable doing that, you should take it to a mechanic/knowledgeable friend.

The wire on connection side of the fuse should be a positive wire. Run a continuity test w/ ground by putting the multimeter into Ohm mode, then touching one end on one side of the fuse connection, and one end w/ ground.

The side that doesn't beep/has 0 ohms is the side that has a short somewhere. continue tracing that wire downstream until you find the section of wire touching exposed metal/a ground wire/whatever.

If you have any questions about what I said above, you can do some basic searches on google, like "how to use a mulitmeter", "how to find a short in a car", etc.

good luck.
