Hi there .. well, I purchased my white Versa and have had it two weeks tomorrow.

Since then I had it in the shop once. It was pulling to the right .. and a "clunk" sound when un-turning the steering wheel after leaving a parking space.

The pulling to the right was supposedly my tire - hmmm

They never found the "clunking" sound.

Today, I hear the clunking sound again but also FEEL it under my feet as I am turning the wheel to get back into a straight line.

What the heck could it be ??

I left a message with the dealer .. I am NOT happy. I sold my 2000 Focus because since I had bought it in 2004, i had nothing but trouble with it. Now I am not starting off on the right foot.

Also - what can be done about windshield wipers lifting when on the highway ? I do NOT drive like a maniac .. a motorcycle accident in 2006 has left me with a bitter taste (and a permanently damaged ankle) so I know it is not excessive speed that does this.

I like my car - I just wish it could allow me to love it and get rid of the damn clunking. Luckily my brother in law heard it too tonite so I know I am not going insane

Thanks

No comment about the noise, but how fast are you driving? I cruise on the 401 @ 125Kph and I havn't had the problem - perhaps defective wipers?

Not that I'm expecting my wipers to last long, I should have replaced them already...

I am usually at max 100 km/hr. I have the occassional 120 but never higher than that. I may just change the wipers .. it might just be as simple as that.

I get the same type of noise once in the while, dont really pay attention, as for the windshields take it to your dealer let them change it and fix it.

the clunking noise might be a unlubricated steering shaft.

I know that was a big problem for GM a few years back 99- 05 Impala's and Malibu's had this same sound and feel your describing with your V.

There problem was that without proper lubrication the the steering shaft couldn't rotate freely enough when turning the steering wheel and would bind up only to unbind after it clunks back into position.

This makes the third recent thread concerning the steering clunk noise when turning to the right. On my V the noise doesn't occur when unturning the wheel but when making the turn. Always when going slow, like pulling away from a stop sign and turning right, or when turning into or backing out of a parking lot.

First trip to dealer to fix the problem was not successful. Looks like another trip soon. Frustrating.
