Ok Well It starts like this... U try and crank and it wont fire up until u let up off the key. if you hold the key down it wont ever fire up like it should. Thats not the Real Problem Im having With it. Well when it Idles it idles kinda rough give it gas and it starts missing. So any ways i decide to take it down the road ::embarrising:: it runs like crap starts backfiring ALOT. so anyways i get mad and try to blow it up. so i sit there a min or two with the gas all the way to the floor. Seein it wouldn blow up so easily i decide to head back to the house and like magically it starts back runnin perfectly. runs good like that for a few days and then starts acting up again. Also I've added all new ignition parts, o2 sensors, and that didnt help. It is the original 4cyl. . Any Help Would be appreciated. Thanks

This is probably more fuel system related than anything else.

Did you check/replace the fuel filter(s)????

STEP 1:They get plugged and the engine will start to run lean and it won't run properly. Water in the fuel can do the same thing.

I suggest you change any and all fuel filters. Pour a small 4-8 oz bottle of methyl Hydrate (Gas Line Antifreeze)into the tank. See if that helps first.

STEP 2:

You also might want to consider a fuel pump could be packing it in. I can't recall if the D21 has one in the tank and one at the engine..or if it it's just at the engine....

There's a flow check you can do on the pump to determine if there is enough fuel getting to the engine...but I don't recall the exact procedure.

Anyone else have the procedure somewhere for testing flow rates on a D21 fuel pumps?

Found Out what it Was! A bad ignition switch caused the awkward cranking, A bad fuel injector on the fourth cylinder was to blame for the rest of the problem and i went ahead and changed out the fuel filter like you said! Now it runs like its a$$ is on fire! Appreciate the help Big-Bird!

Glad to help. Remember to change the fuel filter every 1.5-2 years. It's good tune-up insurance.
