Hello yall, big up from New Orleans. Im 28, ive got a gold 92' 240 SX, im the original owner!, only 91,435 on the odometer. not a speck of rust, except the brakes haha, and shes my baby. I love Rally but have decided its out of my budget so ive decided i want to start tuning my car and racing it in SCCA events.I do not want a rice burner with a sound system that weighs more then the engine. im very serious about racing but all iknow about is Rally.I guess i would like some advice on shops or suppliers that deal with Nissan.all i can find is Honda,Acura, etc... bull$#@*. if any one can give me some leads it would be great. i look forward to becoming an active member of this forum. ohand where should i start tuning. in rally you start with suspension, air intake, and cams, does this go for auto-cross as well? thankyou and thank god for the 240 SX!

Good to have you.

Start with suspension. Coilovers would be the best choice (by Apexi, Tein, JIC, ect), but if you cannot afford these get a good spring/strut combo. I'm not familiar with SCCA rules, but with certain mods you'll end up in different classes. Your best bet would be to make sure everything is running top notch, and make sure you have some good tires, and enjoy. As you get better and your times start dropping, start adding more things.

Oh yeah, you can probably have an exhaust and filter with no problems as far as classifications go.

Good luck.

do a BRAKE upgrade (a popular upgrade is the 300ZX brake upgrade), some power bolt ones (intake, headers[unless u decide u want forced induction], exhaust), and focus on suspension (coilovers or a good strut/spring combo and some strut bars), THEN get some GOOD rubber for ure wheels...that should set u up pretty good. Then mayb look into a good clutch when ure's is wearing out and possibly a lightened flywheel (will help the engine rev quicker)

some1 want to correct me? other possibilities are upgraded ignition system...not necessarily needed, and mayb a cooling upgrade...like elec fans or something (argueably better than stock belt-driven fan.)

hey thanks for the quick replies and keep them coming...oh and 240sxnr95, as a race enthusiast i dont believe a lighten flywheel is good for any semi-mod car,you can rev with more responce but you lose torque low end. i dont mean any dis-respect i only want to establish myself as a source of knowledge. lightening the fly-wheel requires a very balanced engine but thank you for the other suggestions. and also ididnt include tires in my first post because thats the only up grade i have. thank you very much guys i need all the help i can get from experienced people like you guys!

Initially all you need is a well functioning car and a good set of tires. No need to have all those mods if you are gonna run poor times anyway (which you will at first). Learning to driver properly is the easiest way to go faster.

Don't be sorry. All the mods you listed are valid ones.OH YEAH, we all forgot the almighty LSD. A LSD would DEFINITLY be extremely beneficial.

Well 1st off welcome aboard. Just to tell you from my experience, if you have access to some tools and maybe a service manual you can do alot of the work yourself. There's so much info. on these boards you can get away with most of the work yourself, or atleast learn how to diagnose a problem. I get alot of the stuff i need from online sites line http://www.enjukuracing.com, http://www.phase2motortrend.co....com. And last always search before you start a thread, the answer to your question is usually in the space bar. :peace
