New user here owning a '86 720 2 wd since 1986. I bought it used in 1986 for $3500.
Anyway its been sitting in the yard for the last 4 years, and before that it got used only occasionally for 10-12 years.
So I'm getting it running and stumbled on this place. you have helped me a lot the last 3-4 weeks.
I got lots of issues to work through on this thing so I'll be checking in and asking questions as needed.

Thanks to those who maintain this!

Welcome aboard!

Lots of good 720 experts here, and probably several more who rarely post. Glad you're here!

Short update, I've got this thing to run (idle) pretty good by installing a manual choke cable. The electric one is shot and stayed closed. I can drive around the yard good until I shift into 2nd gear then it dies off or wants to. I've come to believe that the secondary throttle valve (the secondary butterfly valve) does not open. Hence the dieing off behavior. I believe it is linkage related but not sure. I can move it by hand a little bit, its pretty deep down in there.
I give it an hour or so a day of tinkering.
Got a long list of issues to work through
slowly removing vacuum lines,
bumper and or mounts need bent back in to shape
clutch release point is way too close to the floor
drivability issues related to secondary not opening
Hitman, I'm in AZ as well

Something to consider:
The timing chains on these rides are under constant pressure (with the engine on or off), which results in the timing chain stretching (especially on a car that has sat,).
When the chain stretches, idle, acceleration, basically everything about how the ride runs is affected. And most of the "indicators" will make you swear you'll "need a new carb".

So, have you checked the timing man? That is where I'd start.
