What's up fellas,

I've been browsing the forums for a couple weeks now reading up on all the pros and cons (mostly pros from what I've seen) before I purchase my own Altima Coupe. I'm looking forward to joining the community and am probably going to do a few mods myself on the car (especially to get rid of the mustache!).

I was at the dealership this morning test driving the car, I am looking at buying the 3.5 SE w/ Tech. and Premium packages. They've already given me a price of $26,995 for the car, about to put down the money in the next week or two.

I wanted to get your guy's opinion on how you think the pricing is, I was ready to haggle them down 3-4k from the 32k MSRP value (per the website), but I didn't even have to... This was the first offer they gave me, and considering they shaved off 5 grand right off the bat I was a little surprised.

Because of the offer I'm ready to throw down the cash now to go for it, as they say their having a sale right now to start the month off strong in anticipation of the summer, but when isn't a dealership having a sale, right?

Any input would be greatly appreciated and hope to post some pics once I get my ride and do my personal tweaks asap.

-Sith

P.S. - I was inquiring to the salesmen how the car has been selling as I've seen the thread here of how many coupes they've seen in their areas. I personally have only seen 2 in my local area and a few around the city (I live in Brooklyn). I actually was driving and saw a 3.5SE in white as I was coming back, whic is only the 5th one I've seen so far on the road. Anyways, sales guy said the 2.5 has been selling much better than the 3.5 SE recently due to gas prices obviously, but he says he's anticipating a lot of sales before summer time so the car enthusiasts can enjoy the nice weather. Also, apparently the sedan is the #1 selling car in the country right now, well above the Camry or Accord. I know I see a million of those, hell the city is even buying them as the new Yellow Cab for the TLC!

I think that price is pretty solid man. Are you leasing or financing it? Also I live in New Rochelle. What dealership and salesman are you dealing with because I'm also looking to buy a 3.5SE coupe as well with tech package and VDC. How much are you putting down and what would your monthly payments come out to be?

I live in Brooklyn, so I went to Bay Ridge Nissan, which is the largest Nissan dealership in NYC, and also the 8th largest on the east coast overall (not just for Nissan). Guy I'm dealing with is named Izzy, young guy... 24. He's made it very easy. I already went back to the dealership to put down 3k today as I wanted to commit him to the price and I'm intending on putting down another 2k next saturday. I plan on financing and we didn't discuss monthly payments or an interest rate yet. I did give him my info so he could pull my credit, which I know is Teir 1 (unfortunately not Tier 0).

They didn't have a Dark Slate 3.5 SE w/ Prem. and Tech Package on site, so he said he is going to track it down for me at the local dealers (there's 2 more Nissan dealers in my areas... Coney Island Nissan and Staten Island Nissan), so I'm hoping there's one close by. He said he should know by Monday or Tuesday and would give me a call with a VIN # when he's tracked it down. I guess come this Saturday I'll put the rest down and we'll discuss a monthly payment and interest rate. I was more concerned with the overall price. I thought for a $32k car I would try to widdle it down to $29k or so, so $27k was offered and I went for it.

He said I should be able to drive away with the car come May 12 (Monday after this one).

The deal sounds great almost to great, But why would you give him 3k down to hold the deal..................I have never put any money down to hold a deal until I have seen the car, test drove the car and most important have a contract written. I hope it all works out for you

if a dealer is ready to set the bar so low in terms of the price... i'd say tell them 25,5 and you buy it right now. i'd say thats a hell of a price for the v6 with tech+premium pkg.

That sounds good. I'm gonna have to check them out and see what they can do. I'm also looking for Dark Slate. Tier 1 credit, thats about what, a 700 credit score? When you know the payments and interest rate and monthly payments, let me know. Just to get an idea before I go in there. All in all, congrats man!

You google any Car Dealership and they are going to have a few negative reviews. I've known several people personally who've bought from them and said they're trustworthy. Considering also the fact that they are the #1 Nissan Dealership in sales for the east coast, I think they know what they're doing. The internet is not reliable when it comes to reviews, so you gotta take it with a grain of salt.

Read some of those peoples actual complaints...

"These Crooks they gave me a great price gave the $1000 down for a nissan pathfinder next thing you know there telling me theres fee for delivering the car . who in the right mind would say sure i understand you shipped it directly from japan on the boat right The Manager was a dumb russian The Sales rep was a bigger retard the funny part The Manager Dima just called and threathend me that he wont give me the deposit back Funny i have the conversation recorded anyone interested in hearing it let me know"

How does anyone not know of a Destination & Handling fee? He obviously has never bought a car in his life before. This is from City Search's website, and if you look at the overall score for the dealership its 4 stars. There are 4 write ups, all negative re also 4 complaints, each with 1 star, which leads me to believe they're bogus. Car dealers are notorious for taking advantage, and they will if you let them, but not all of them are downright crooks.

Secondly, I don't know anyone whose not given a down payment to locate nd find your exact trim and color if you're buying a new car. I didn't have to put down $3k, it was my choice to give that much.

Update:

Alright, I finally got a call back from my dealership, guy is telling me they are unable to locate a 3.5SE w/ Tech & Prem. Package in Dark Slate. They only have Winter Frost, Code Red, Super Black & Precision Grey. He says if I wanted to order it from the factory, I could, but it'd take 2 months to get.

I was telling him I didn't see how that was possible, it's not like I'm asking for an '07 or the '09s are out already... why wouldn't they have it fully loaded?? He said he didn't know... I'm tempted now to call another dealership right now and ask them if they can find it. I don't know if that'll work, I would figure the database is the same in all dealerships, right?

If I do find it, why would this guy BS me? Ideas....?

Okay,

I just got off the phone with the Sales Manager for Kings Nissan (In Coney Island, just a few miles away from Bay Ridge Nissan). He says he was able to locate 2 Dark Slates with 3.5SE with Tech Package & Prem Package in the Region, obviously they could go outside the region but I'm guessing the Destination and Handling fee would go up quite some bit....

The Manager at King's Nissan said he could tell me the locations if I came in and we could work it up, but I'm ready to call Izzy at Bay Ridge and say !!! How come he can find 2, and you can't find S***??

don't u despise how they make u come into the dealership to work it out, rather than just fixing it over the phone?

u already gave ur down payment, so just stick to ur guns and get what u want. Sure they might have made an honest mistake, but it is still their mistake, and they should fix it.

Hey, long time lurker, but when I read this thread I had to post.

Get your down payment back from this dealership and walk away. I really don't think they'll be able to get you a fully loaded 3.5 coupe for the price quoted anyway. I saw the invoice when I bought mine last month, $29,500. I was able to get it for below invoice (29K total) because there was a factory to dealer incentive of $1000 at the time of my purchase, so they still made $500 off of my deal.

Now, how is this dealership going to get you a car that's priced around 29k for 27k? They'd be losing $2k on the deal! Why they had you put money down, I do not know, but you shouldn't put ANY money down until they have your car on hand and you have test driven it. They are now going to use your money as leverage to try and get you into another car. They will call you and say "Oh, we've located one, but it's going to cost you an additional $1200 to have it delivered here, plus we have to pay for the NY emissions ( or some other bull****), so it's going to end up being 29,900 for the car...blah, blah, blah".

If you aren't happy, walk away. Unfortunately, you have already given them money. Try to get this back. I just did an inventory check of dealers in the Brooklyn area (using Nissanusa.com) and Koeppel Nissan in Jackson Heights has a Dark Slate 3.5 with everything except the tech package in stock. Your dealer knows this and should have offered it to you, but he didn't because he's trying to milk more money from you.

Get your deposit back. Call other dealers in the area and tell them the price this dealer gave you. I can almost guarantee that no one will match it.

Don't let them tell you what to do! If you feel uncomfortable AT ALL, deal with a different dealership. Get your money back and get out of there. This smells bad...

First off... JAFO, thanks for the post, very informative! I have a bad feeling too that they're going to try and pull a fast one on me.

Do you think if I found a 3.5SE CVT w/ Prem Pkg in Dark Slate, that the dealership would be able to install the Tech Package in there for me? or is that not possible??

I may just say F it with the Dark Slate and just go Precision Grey or Super Black (I'm not sure which yet). I'd rather not go direct to the factory to wait for my color as I'm already going "new car crazy" these last few days since I went to the dealership on Saturday.

I'm having him see if he can get the Super Black or Precision Grey and he said he'd get back to me befor end of today. I have a feeling they gave me a deal they aren't going to back up, but I mean if I didn't even have to bargain at all for that price, that's what they gave me right outta the box, could it really bit "too" good of a deal for them to execute???

I'm at work right and now I can't concentrate at all. I think I'm going to stop by the dealership on the way home, see if we can get it straigtened out today.

Not a problem, I don't want you to get taken here!

I suppose the reason they gave you that offer is that they know you couldn't refuse it. Now, they have your interest and a deposit from you so (in their mind) you have to deal with them. Remember, if something seems to good to be true, it probably is!

Be a skeptic. Ask them about the deal. What was the invoice price? How can they make you a deal on a car that they don't even have? Why did you have to put a deposit down on a car they can't get for you (hell, why'd you have to put it down in the first place?!?!?).

Question, question, question. Call other dealers and find out what they quote the car you want for. See what they will can do for you. Know that most dealers order new cars basically every week. If they know you are interested in a particular model, color or option, they can order the car you want when they perform their weekly orders. There should be no special charge for this.

Log on to Nissanusa.com. From here, you can search all dealer inventories. Find a dealer that is close to you with the car you want and deal with them. If another dealer says "we found the car, but we have to charge you to go get it", you tell them, "No thanks, I'll just find out which dealer has the car and deal with them".

Be strong. Be aggressive. This is your money. A vehicle purchase is usually the second most expensive thing one will buy (next to your house!). Don't settle for something that's not exactly what you like. If you have to wait, then wait. Don't buy a car that's not the exact color you want or that doesn't have all of the options you want. If you do, you'll regret it when the "lust" of the new car wears off and you're stuck with a color you don't really like, etc. Car dealers LOVE it when someone is so in love with a car that they have to have it now. Tell the dealer straight up, "You know, I want a new car, but I don't NEED a new car. I'll wait until I find the one I want.". Play the waiting game. You'll be happy that you did when you finally get a vehicle for your price with everything you want in it. Don't let the dealer tell you what color they can get for you. Tell them to get the color you want! Power to the people!!!!

I also have a bad feeling about this one. I actually dealt with Popular Ford over in Coney Island, TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Everyone from NYC, stay away from these crooks. I don't know if its dealerships in Brooklyn or what, but they all are crooks. They tell you one thing and turn around and tell you something completely different. Also don't sign ANYTHING until you READ through the contract and make sure you get a copy of whatever you sign. JAFO has it ALL right in his post. Get your deposit back and get the hell outta there and do business elsewhere

Well I spoke to my dealer, he found me the car in Precision Grey which is what I ultimately told him I wanted to choose. I'm heading there tonight to do the Financing, work on my estimate. I'm not putting the rest down until I test drive MY car.

Here's wishing me luck! Thanks guys for all your help....

Hopefully your dealership will not jip you when it coms to the GOLD PREFFERRED PROTECTION PLAN. I paid 1400 buckx for the stupid plan and they are not standing by there agreements and they tell me that the plan does not cover certain things but when I asked the m*therf***ing finance guy directly to his face if I pay for this and I get a nail stuck into my tire from regular driving if I bring it back will I get a new tire and he looked me directly in the face and said yes it does cover that and you bring the car back and we will install you a new tire. When I called him the other day he read the brochure to me and told me it doesnt cover that and road hazard only covers oil changes W.T.F. But I fixed the tire and I dont need to do anything with it right now but the fact that they said one thing and are standing behind another goes to show that they dont care. But good luck by the way. The dealership is West Texas Nissan .

Well, I went to the dealer last night... went through financing, he was ready to throw all the documents for me to sign right then and there when I asked where the car is. He said it's in a lot here in Brooklyn that they share with another dealership. I said I'd like to test drive it before I sign contracts.

He stopped, leaned back in his chair and said, "I can't have you test drive it until you sign, catch 22". I stared at him, blinked and said how come? He said they cannot bring the car to the dealership until it's been paid for meaning the bank pays the other dealership and they give my initial deposit and additional deposit over to them. So I said, okay, where is it? I'll go drive there and test drive it, I'm not buying a car without seeing or test driving it. He siged, I can't do that either, of course I said "Why Not?", and his reply was that if I went there to test drive it that the other dealership would try and steal the sale. I laughed and said, how's that? You have my $3,000 deposit (which was already cashed, I checked the bank). For an instant, I think I actually stumped him as he paused himself in his speach, which most salesmen don't do because that allows you to think. He did seem to understand my concern and told no one usually drives the car they actually buy (which I didn't believe, but I've never bought a new car, only used, so I couldn't say with accuracy that he's a BS'er). I assured him I wasn't buying it until I did test drive it though... he paused again and said, "Let me see what I can do". He gets up, walks out of his office and comes back in 2 mins and says, "Okay, I can have the car here by tomorrow for you to test drive". I said good, then I'll see you tomorrow, he said wait, let's get you to sign first and we'll put a clause in that says "subject to customer's test drive". I said no, got up to leave and he said okay... that's fine, but let's get your insurance approved first, which I thought was okay as i could always cancel the policy since there was no License Plate or Registration done yet or contracts signed. We did it over the phone real quick like and then I left.

I was told I'll have a call this afternoon to confirm the car is there for test drive and I can stop buy to finalize everything. My sales guy, Izzy later told me they were able to send over a 3.5SE with the Prem. Package to the other dealer as an exchange to send over mine with the Tech Package to test drive and that obviously that's not a fair trade between dealers and they would kick the trade back, but they would put down that it had tech package and tell the other dealer it was a mistake. Apparently I must have struck a hard bargain because that seems like it's not an easy thing to do to get a dealer to do (lie to another dealer about a swap).

Anyways, tonight I'll test drive hopefully, sign my contracts, put my remaining deposit down and Friday evening they said they'll have plates and registration ready if I move forward and I can walk away with it for the weekend!

Btw- I got my APR I wanted too 3.99%, paying a little over $500 a month because I went with the Premium Plus Warranty and I also opted for the LoJack and Window Etching which was tacked on the the price. Otherwise it would have been well under $500.

P.S. - Hope this isn't too long of a post, figured I'd share my buying experience with everyone so that others can learn from my mistakes.

He said he'd have the car for you yesterday! This is taking up too much of your time. Be cautious. This still sounds EXTREMELY suspect. Trading dealer inventory is a pretty easy step to do. I didn't quite understand what you meant about him having to lie to the other dealer, but if he trades the other dealer a car that is not the same, they'll know about it. I don't like how he didn't want you to test drive it either.

Also, I've bought a few new cars and a few used cars and have test driven EVERY one of them before buying. Him saying that nobody test drives their new car is bull****. I bet you ask everyone on this forum and they all test drove their cars before purchasing (or the parents test drove for those spoiled little brats who got their cars as a present! :p)

If I were you, I'd get my money back and leave that dealership for good. It really sounds like they are trying to screw you. Too many weird answers and hesitation to get you what you want should be a red flag. I still advise getting out of there while you can, but it's soley your decision.

They did get you the APR you want, but what they still may do is have you sign your contract with the 3.99% on it, then call you a week later (as you've been driving your car, showing it off to people, customizing it, etc.) and say, "Hey, we weren't able to procure a 3.99% APR for you, so you'll have to come back in and resign for 9.99% which is the best we can do...). If they do this, they have to void your old contract and have you sign another one. If you don't want that new APR, have them void the old contract in front of you, then refuse to sign the new contract. The car will be theirs again and you can walk away having gotten a free rental for a week.

In summation, I recommend getting your money back and walking away now, but it's your own decision.

I own the exact vehicle you are looking for and I bought it about 6-8 months ago.

I paid around 33k (with Nissan Warranty as well).

I'm somewhat kicking myself for not waiting till I could reason a better price but I got to be the first one in my area with one of these suckas and enjoy it for longer. Plus my old car was about to die any day at the time

Well I officially picked up the car that day I test drove it, signed all the docs, put the rest of the money down. Despite my worries I completely satisfied.

Now the job of doing my mods is gonna start, prolly going to go get tints this next weekend and then maybe the rear wing and roof wing from Stillen after that.

I'm def. interested in the Injen intake as well. I saw there is going to be possibly a group buy for the Stillen intake, is there any real difference between the two?
