Just picked up my '91 Q from my mechanic who installed Fred,s old reman transmission. Changed front and rear transmission seals, rear main seal, transmission mount, flushed cooling system (aftermarket stacked plate type cooler) and lines, full fill w/Mobil One synthetic. Total Cost $479.00! (Plus parts from Scottsdale).

Thanks Fred, the transmission received a clean bill of health and works great!

I need to find a 1st gear start TCU ASAP!! Any leads?

Has anyone installed a temp gage to monitor trans fluid temp? If so, how and what kind of sending unit, location, etc.?

Pat S.

I think one of our members installed a digital temp gauge.......

Ive heard of some thought about putting an auxillary gauge cluster where the ashtray is, since NO ONE smokes in their Q........ :)

For a 1st gear start, Id look for a TCU out of a 90-93 wrecked Q...... Check the B/S/T for people that are parting out cars.......

You will be severely disappointed when you discover that the 1990-1992 TCU do not have first gear start except at WOT and by manual selection.

Any JWT TCU that is applicable will, though.

Most of the electronic digital temperature gauges use the same temperature sensor resistance; oil, water, transmission. Water at 180F, oil at 200F, transmission hopefully 176F.

Use one gauge and a 2-3-4-5 postion rotary switch to monitor multiple sensors........you could build an electronic stepper to sequentally change every second or two.

Same with pressure: oil, fuel,..............zero to 100psi

Measuring the diff temp in summer load will scare you.

Measure the ATF as it goes into the cooler [hottest spot], then you will se why you change it every year in hot climates.

What would be great would be a micro computer that stored average temp per running hour of each fluid.

A single digital panel voltmeter could monitor bat/alternator, MAF voltage, TPS, other things.........gotta be careful running unshielded OEM sensor voltages around.......the ecu might pick up noise from the extra leads acting as antenna.

I am very jealous since my 90Q needs a new transmission...still running greatl, but with slippage in 4th gear...

I am picking up a 94 Q next week. Right now it looks like my 16 year old son gets the Q until the transmission goes out.

I have a 93 ECU/TCU combination available. They came out of a Federal 93Q with no options...(no TCS, Active Suspension, no HICAS, etc.)

I'm using the same combination in my 90 with good results. I'd recommend using both the ECU and TCU since some members have reported having issues with the rev limiter with a mis-matched combination.

Email me back channel at [email protected] if you're interested.

Which should be about three days if he drives anything like I did when I was 16 - hell even at 30 :D :D
