OK I've been searching and reading on here for the last few days and I think I've put together a pretty solid plan for a low boost, budget turbo project for this summer, tell me what you think.

SSAC Manifold- do we still need to customize these or have they improved them? I've been out of the turbo scene for a year or two.T28- S14 or maybe ebayebay FMIC/piping370cc InjectorsZ32 MAFECU Tuning- EFI SpecialistsWalbro fuel pumpSpec stage 3 clutch

Car already has:I/H/E248/232 camsFidanza flywheel

Shooting for 230-250whp, but with as little boost as possible, stock 8psi if I can get away with it. I'm thinking reliable daily driver with room to grow... disco potato anyone? Ah, eventually

use 480's instead of 370's. other than that your setup will make 230 on 7psi all day.

^^ +1 to injector sizing recommendations. WHP is relative to the dyno and engine health.

Cool, 480's instead of 370's got it. I had it in my head that some people run stock 270's and make around 230, so 370's would be fine, but I didn't factor in that they use an FMU on those setups to increase fuel pressure, suppose thats where the difference comes from. just out of curiosity, what duty cycle are 270's running at in a setup like that? Can't be that stable...

Also about the SSAC mani, do you still have to cut relief slots in the flange like they used to on the old ones to keep them from cracking, or have they improved their design since then?

Sounds like a clone of my setup haha. I'm running everything you listed minus the z32 maf, and if you get the 480's that would be different too. EFI's tune started my engine and got me around the block, but the car is out of commission right now so I can't tell you what my afr's are like with the tune. Seems like a solid setup.

I didn't slot the manifold flange, I don't think you have to. Another thing to mention that I've never heard of before, you might want to have the manifold studs welded in or weld the back of the stud hole on the manifold. All of the stud holes are just open, and the studs provided aren't long enough to put lock washers and nuts on both mani side and turbo side. Not to mention clearance issues with trying to fit washers and such.

Yeah Chris I think I actually decided to go and check into EFI Tuning cause I saw it in one of your posts And I'll look at the studs on the manifold when I get it, sounds like a good idea.

OK I've changed my mind already. What if I were to keep everything the same as far as fuel management and tuning, but use a T3 instead of the T28 to allow for future upgrades? I've been reading a little about holset turbos today, mostly because WD can't go more than a post or two without extolling their virtues but nonetheless I think I may be a convert, LOL. My questions are: which holset to use? HX30, HY35, HX35? And would I need to change anything else in my set-up to accommodate said holset T3, beyond the custom downpipe and charge piping I mean? Thanks guys

JGS makes good manifold for t3 turbo if you're on a budget. If you plan on going big in power then i suggest even bigger injectors such as 550cc+, you probably still get around the same mpg while cruisin. oil lines would be different and probably have to custom the intercooler hotpipe. GL

Well I doubt I'd go much over 300whp for the forseeable future, any more than that would just be pointless for my purposes. So could I get by with the 480's? Maybe with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator?

how how about turbo choice? From the compressor maps I've looked at it looks like the 35 series turbos are a little too big for the air mass I'll be getting, what about the H1C, or WH1C? Havn't found any maps on those, but both are pretty plentiful online for around $200.
