Turbos do not need to be broken in. If it's a new turbo or one that has been sitting off the car a while, it may be a good idea to prime the turbo a bit by pouring a small amount of oil in the oil inlet before starting the car. Of course you'll have to disconnect the oil inlet line and put it back on to do so.

some instructions tell you to take off your intake pipe and hold the comp. wheel and have someone start the car, and wait a few seconds for the oil to circulate through, then let the wheel go. this is for new turbo's. also, i would let your car idle for 10-20min before taking it out w/ the new turbo.

I'm not sure any company would ever make that kind of a recommendation just for liability reasons alone. All you would need is some moron who starts teh car to gas it up, or there to be something wrong with the motor and cause a surge of RPM's to cause the wheel to want to spin. May not cause a serious injury, but even a cut to a finger or two and the potential damage to the compressor would tell me that this would not be a good idea at all. Prime the turbo with a little oil and it will be fine. The oil will make it up the line and into the turbo very quickly.

i didnt do it this way, that is just what the instructions said that came with my turbo. but i really dont think it is neccessary as long as you prime it first.
