Recently i have been looking for new trannys for my 1991 300zx tt and just came upon one called "98+ Spec TT Manual Transmission (5 Speed)" on the site z1motorsports.com. I have searched and havnt really found any facts and specs about it and im wondering if that is capable of holding high hp.

I don't know about HP specs, but I know that it utilizes dual synchros (rather than USDM single synchro) so it isn't prone to grinding between gears and premature transmission failure.

For really high HP situations, I would go with a PPG Dog Box (if I had the need or means, lol). Pricey as hell, but if you need something that withstand serious power (600WHP+) it's not a bad idea. Either pay the 10k up front for the PPG, or buy a new OEM transmission every oil change.

The transmission is question, is pretty much a Japanese spec transmission..the Z car stopped production in Japan in 98-99 (stopped in 96 here)..so any transmission made in the early-mid 90s had that synchro problem*..which were fixed after 96 (so any car sold after 96 were only sold in japan/elsewhere)..just like you have the newer style injectors, that didn't inherit the problems from the older style.

What i assume they do is, import the transmissions from Japan and refurbish them.

This is an OEM newer style transmission they are selling.

Yes it costs 10K. But it's not a normal transmission, it's a dog box with straight cut gears.

For high HP applications, helical cut gears (like in the OEM transmissions - even the 99 spec) will always fall short. They are not as strong, and a high power engine will destroy the gears eventually, period. And when your talking about 600WHP, that eventually comes quickly. Just ask TG.

A dog box or sequential system will last much much longer. So if you are going to reach high HP/torque levels, and OEM transmission isn't really an option. When you put that much into an engine, you have to put that much into everything else as well ;)

A transmission that can hold 1000hp for the TT is the auto (RE4R03a) with add ons specifically the manual reverse valve body.. Shifts just like a stick but NO Clutch...

I've never heard of that... Do you have any more info on it? And what's the cost?
