I just picked up an 89 coupe with a DOHC swap.Got a few issues though. Bogs like hell. With mafs plugged up it won't idle, but it will rev past 3k.With mafs unplugged it will idle, but will bog after 3k rpm. The guy I bought it from already swapped th mafs. He thinks it is the ecu. I have my dohc ecu but it is from my 93, and this engine is from a 95. Will it work? I know there are some differences in the s-13 and s-14 ecu's but I'm not sure what.

Otherwise I don't have a clue about the bogging.

Ecu will work as long as its an OBD1 ecu. Swap it out and see if that fix's it.

The mafs has already been replaced, but I may put my old one and see.Is there any way to see which ecu is what? I know a guy that has a few ecu's from some nissans some were 240's but he doesn't know.

well it was the wrong maf or a bad maf, when you unplug the maf and the car idles good thats a sign, the car not rev'in passed 3k is another sign(the ecu see's no maf signal and goes into limp mode),the car idling like *** with maf hooked up = bad maf

uhm try hybridka, IIRC they have an ecu list. Or call nissan(MAKE them look it up), they are all coded with the numbers on them, nissan knows the codes even if they try to say they dont google might even bring up what your looking for... here you go jwt ftw~!!!!!! http://www.jimwolftechnology.c...D.PDF

I would say bad maf all so, You said the guy all ready swaped the maf, is it still the sctock maf? If he put in a z32 maf check the wires he might have jacked it up. If it is still a stocker than bad Maf.

Still stock mafs. I tried my old ecu and it idled, but you give it some gas and it stalls until you let off the gas. I can't find my old stock mafs, I know for a fact it is good. Thanks for the help guys, i'll try and get some pics up of it. Its' a clean little coupe other than the running like crap.

Thats one thing I forgot to mention. On the ecu by the mode screw it says, idle and then has low and high, plus diagnostic mode. My ecu don't say anything but diagnostic mode.

lol I never did figure out what the point of the idle adjustment was on the ecu but it trim something to assist with too high/low an idle.... and serve as the code checker.

I don't think he did, but I'll find out. The guy I bought it from was really young and doesn't know too much about cars. So I don't think he really knows what happened.

Yeah, yeah. You and your V-8 mess.lolI hit on a good deal with this car. I have been as busy as a one-legged cat trying to bury a turd on a frozen lake, so I couldn't get any pics to post or even try and work on the car.BUT! I have a surprise that I'm going to post on Monday, and it will be NEWS!No, I'm not coming out of the closet, and I will not be forced out, thank you very much!I'm as happy as a piglet licking honey off a young Asian woman.

Hmm, I dunno about the pig being happy, but I'd wait inline to lick this aformentioned honey off of said Asian chick. Is she wearing a school girl outfit by chance? Pony tails?

I think it is a ECU problem, I just haven't had time to check it out. I don't have an ECU from an s14 laying around , so I'll have to borrow one to check it out. I promise to get pics up today of the 89 coupe. Then I'll hit you with the whammy!

Here are some pics of my 89 coupe with a 95 DOHC swap. And also I threw in a couple of shots of my latest acquisition, A 90 HATCH SUPER CLEAN WHOOO! Sorry, I've been saying that since I first saw it last Friday. It runs like a champ. It has cruise and A/C. And everything works! But the absolute best thing about my 90 HATCH SUPER CLEAN WHOOO! is that I only paid $1200 for it. I gave $1600 for the swapped coupe and it has issues. Oh, and I threw a couple of my 93 KA-T too. Happy hatin'!!! yay me! WHOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOO!

Sorry, the pics are in reverse order

yeah, I got it like that and haven't had time to do anything to it. The rear tires are huge. I guess the guy was going for the pro street look. I want to sell the two tone and just work on the hatch. Oh and its silver-moss, not blue.
