what are the main differences between gram lights and volks?

also, what are the benefits or penalties of offset?

on an s14 i noticed that most ray's wheels taht are 17 x 7 1/2 have an offset of either +30 or +40, how will this affect my vehicles performance?

Weight, overall diameter, and tire compound are the factors that affect performance.

Offsets are generally conservative, because wheels are made for the most part to fit vehicles for the general population. Nothing excessive or too big.

17x7 1/2" offset +30 is a very safe fitment, will clear suspension, but limits tire size choices(if you wanted to fit huge meats)

But this size allows the perfect easy fitment tire. 215/45-17 which can be had in very good UHP summer tires.

Gram lights used to be under the Rays banner, now some say it's a different label. Gram lights are nice, so are all rays wheels.

Offset should be used as a tool to clear suspension, and tuck the wheel/tire assembly into the fender to avoid rubbing. +30 will clear coilovers in 7-8" with proper tire size, +40 in such widths is too tight against a coilover suspension.
