Hi, I'm new and a girl! But I love my car: 1995 240SX and have just replaced my front speakers thanks to you guys I figured it out. Would like opinions on what to do in order of importance to upgrade and maintain my beauty (I bought her new and only have 55,000 miles on her). Thanks.

Welcome to Nico. What kind of speakers did you put in your s14? Any other audio mods planned for the future?

Thanks for the "real" replies. The "immature" ones need not bother.

Anyway, I merely replaced the original Pioneer speakers with new Pioneer's. Not very exciting but just seeing that I could do it myself has inspired me. I notice the rear speakers and amp are Clarion. Any recommendations for their replacements?

More importantly the front of the car has started to whine. I think it may just be the belts.

Also, I would like to replace the suspension (not by myself!)

Any comments?

Hi and welcome to NICO!

1. Search, alot of topics have been discussed over and over so you can almost always find answers to your problems before hand. Use the red button in the upper right :)

2. Invest in a FSM (Factory Service Manual) I have a Chiltons manual and I like it. It will help to give you a step by step on how to fix your 240 after you've diagnosed it. Very handy tool as it gives you torque specs for many bolts.

3. Feel free to ask questions, chances are someone has had the same issue earlier in life and can save you some heartache and money.

If the whine is a high pitched noise that happens at higher engine RPMs then the belts more than likely just need to be tensioned. However take a look at them... if they are frayed, cracked, or appear to be glazed and old then it's replacement time. The FSM (see no. 2) will outline how to do that (it's very easy and requires a little patience and some common handtools).

As for the suspension, a popular setup on the 240 is a KYB AGX adjustable shock/strut setup w/ a popular lowering spring such as the Eibach Prokit. It offers adjustability, which is a MUST in my book, and it gives a firmer ride without the harshness of a full coilover setup.

I also suggest you replace the suspension yourself. It's as easy as changing the oil :) ... more time consuming but if you can turn a wrench and follow instructions then changing out suspension is easier than you'd think!

What kind of head unit are you using? Is it the factory sereo or an aftermarket CD player? As long as the rear speakers aren't blown and/or suck there's probably no urgent need to replace them right away since Clarion is typically better than stock Nissan speakers. Do you have any subs? There's alot of choices when it comes to audio mods. I personally am a fan of Cerwin Vega or JL Audio for a good mid priced sub woofer. As for amps, I've heard really good things about Vofenhag. Pioneer actually makes a pretty decent speaker. Just all really depends on what you're willing to spend. This site has pretty good prices on car audio.http://www.millionbuy.comNismoFreak has the best advice with the Factory Service manual. Those are like bibles if you want to do anything to your car. You can order FSM's from any local Nissan dealer. Expect to spend at least $70 for one. Pricey but worth it.

Thanks NISMO FreakI am ordering the Chilton manual from Amazon.com as we speak. And to MatchstycMy cd/tape deck are factory and you're right about not having to change the amp/rear speakers Just having changed the front ones has made a world of difference. However, they look a little funny. The new grill is suppose to mount directly on the speaker but when I took off the old grill and speakers, they are set up differently. The speaker is inside the door panel and the grill rests flat on the door panel What to do?

Yes, the FSM is by far one of the best purchases for a DIYer. Order of importance is rather vague though. Some may think the SR swap is the highest of importance, some may say suspension, some may say stereo. I personally think the tune up (including the replacement of tires) of your car is at the top of the list. It'll give you more power, and better fuel economy. Replacing of fluids is also very important (motor, brake, transmission, gear, and power steering). If you're going to drift or auto cross, I'd say build up the suspension since you don't need godly HP figures to drift. If you're going to drag, I'd say look into an SR. If it's a daily driver, personally I think the stock stereo sucks so I'd go about changing some of the components out. My stereo consists of (installed in a 180sx) infinity kappa 63.5i in the doors, 693.5i in the rear, alpine MRV-f340 (4ch. amp) hooked up to an alpine CDA-7894 mp3 head. Sounds very clear without a need for heavy subs.

i put some pioneers in the front of my 95' 240. i didnt bother with the grills they gave me. it would take too much work to make them fit prolly so i just used the stock grills. as for the rear i installed some 6.5" infinitis and they are awesome! the infinitis are so much better than the pioneers i installed. they have MUCH more bass compared to the pioneers. i also installed a Baplaunkt mp3/cd head unit which was a must considering it had a factory tape deck when i bought it. installation of the head unit wasnt hard at all as long as you have the wire harness and antenna adaptor. (i forgot to buy a antenna adaptor and the HU didnt work because it is grounded through the antenna) as for supension, im installing some KYB AGX struts and whiteline springs as we speak and the installation of the struts/springs are easy, its installing bushings that will be the hard part. just make sure to have a spring compressor, or i could sell you mine ones im done installing my suspension. good luck on your car and welcome to NICO

anyone out there still have their stock grilles for the front 2 door speakers in the '95? I destroyed mine when I replaced the speakers thinking the new grilles would fit fine!
