Hey, guys. I feel like I'm on the wrong section; I'm new to this, forgive me. I hope I don't get flamed right off...

So, anyway, my name is Mae and I bought a 1993 Nissan 240SX w/ a Silvia front end conversion early January; it's my first car and engine-wise, it's basically stock. It's ran 108,xxx miles, 106,xxx when I first got it. Open-diff. In fact, I think the only thing(s) that has/have been done to it when I first got it was probably: being lowered [on cut springs - help] and this nasty [3 in., I believe] Tsudo exhaust, and of course, the front-end conversion. We replaced the Tsudo [since it was the definition of a fart can] with a Borla. Not what I would have gone with, but it was definitely an upgrade imo.

1. I want to use it as a DD, but drift it occasionally. My friend said it would be best to get a 2-way LSD vs. a welded diff. I was hoping to get some advice on that and possibly a walk through it.

2. I want to increase power, but should I? If I should, what would be the best way to do so. I talked to my shop teacher [who's really more of an expert on domestic cars] and he suggested that I focus more on dropping gear ratios - creating faster acceleration but sacrificing top speed.

3. I feel like I'll need a brake upgrade soon considering the original brake discs have gone off rusty. Any suggestions?

and lastly,

4. Suspension upgrade. I wanted to go with coilovers - they said not to run cheap on them. This is a definite need considering, with the cut springs I run on now, I feel so insecure about it, like the system could bust. My shop teacher, on the other hand, suggested I look into Eibach springs. Opinions?

Also, if it's no bother, some installation guides would be great. I feel so noob-sounding right now, pardon me. Thank you for taking the time to read this, reply, and the patience, lol.

**EDIT** Probably should've mentioned that the engine is a KA24DE.

Welcome to NICO! I would move this to general chat as you are generally explaining your new car. Include some pics when it's moved :bigthumb:

First, the nice big red SEARCH button to the right will yield a lot of great results. This is probably the most informative NISSAN Forum on the web. The power is yours there!

That said,

1. a 2-way would be alright, welded diff for drive-ability on the street would suck. Not only would it eat up tires, it's a good way to break axles turning.

2. Power is great, but if you don't have the suspension to support it, it's just a nuisance. Put it on the long term list. For simplicity, an RB25 or SR20 is great, if you want to go wild a 5.3 LS based LM7 engine and T56 trans is great, or just boost the KA. There are many routes you can go here.

3. Z32 300zx brake upgrades are nice and can also give you better wheel options being that you would swap over to 5 lug. Personally, that is the direction I would go. If you want to do it on the cheap, get some nice drilled and slotted rotors and some nice hawk or ebc pads.

4. Don't make the mistake I did on my first S car. I bought the cheapo Megan coilovers. They lasted alright for a bit but I quickly realized they were not going to last more than 3 or 4 months and they sure didn't. A nice somewhat budget friendly set of adjustable coilovers are the BC coilovers. Other than that, Tein, Apexi or other big brand names usually are pretty decent in general.

Hope some of this helps, welcome to Nico!

Depends on how much you want to spend, and how reliable you want it to be

my goal was OEM reliability, 30mpg, 320rwhp~ so I could also rip an easy 12 second quarter mile around 116-122mph.

My build was,
stock exhaust, stock suspension, 98' S14 model sr20det with S3 cams, gt2871r, pfc, z32, 550cc injectors and stock longblock/oil pump.

with the OEM exhaust I can squeeze 300rwhp and go 12's on pump gas and keep 30mpg economy. If I need it, there is an additional 50 horsepower available by turning up the boost. By keeping my redline below 7000rpm and horsepower below 360bhp, I guarantee the engine will be reliable. The cost is relatively low, engine plus all modifications was under 5k.

Welcome to NICO! We should be able to help with your questions.

1. Even a 2 way is a little rough (and expensive). You'd probably be best off starting out with a limited slip diff. Here's a write-up I did on the swap: http://www.nicoclub.com/archives/240sx- ... -swap.html

2. I wouldn't mess with trying to drop gear ratios. You're best off adding a turbo. By far the best bang for the buck. You could also do one of the more popular engine swaps (like mentioned above).

3. They are just rusty? Most rotors are... I've never really found that my brakes have been inadequate. I upgraded to 300zx brakes on one of my 240s and found it to be sort of a waste of time and money. It looks good though...
Seriously though, good pads and rotors should be fine. Get fresh fluid in there too.

4. Here's a write-up I did for coilover installation (should be pretty universal for all coilovers):

You pretty much get what you pay for with coilovers. I'd suggest something with adjustable damping.
