Hey yall, I just bought a 1984 720 as a way to save money on gas compared to the full size 3/4 ton truck I was driving. I have always loved the clean lines and design of these trucks, and I love the one I bought, but it acts weird. All the vacuum lines are capped, it recently had a newly machined head put on, and it usually runs like new (other than a slight exhaust leak), but occasionally it will seem to cut out and run rough. There seems to be no rhyme nor reason to it. I have driven on a cold start with no problem, on a hot start with no problem, but on both, it will occasionally act up. Usually once I get it up to speed and really get into it, it will even out. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas.

Thanks

Sorry, also meant to ask if anyone had any ideas on the best solution to add a console/cup holder solution to that bench seat.

Thanks

Can you elaborate on how it runs when it runs rough? Does it do it under load? Does it continue when it's not under load? Could be a number of things.

As for a cup holder, you could always get one of those window hanging holders, haha.

She runs great under load. The higher the rpm, the better (I guess that stands to reason, though). The problem is upon slow acceleration. At slow throttle, she tends to skip, never really stalls, but is just rough. If I get into her, she is quick and smooth. I thought that it might be a carb issue. I replaced plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, air filter, fuel filter, and she runs much better--was rough all the time before, when I first bought her. The only carb work I have done is clean her out good.

I was wondering if this is normal on a truck with the emission controls removed and the vacuum lines plugged. The exhaust return is missing completely and open, and the two bigger lines that look like they are coming from the exhaust manifold are simply pinched off. I took pictures on my phone, but can't figure out how to post them!!! I'm not really good with computers. I tried copying the pix and pasting them in, but no dice.

Btw, my first two cars('66 Impala, '67 GMC) had no cup holders, and I was used to it, but my more recent vehicles have spoiled me! I did actually get window coasters! Haha.

could be a simple as a wire flopping around a bit.

And the whole "is it normal for the truck to run weird after is has no emission"? no. I took all mine out and I think mine over fuels if you mash the gas because I have no FPR.<----I should get one (I have a weber)

Ok, upon inspection, I have a weber carb. I went through and recapped all vacuum lines, reconnected a few that were loose, and reconnected a wire to the spark advance on the distributor that was disconnected. Now the truck has NO acceleration. She won't even back out of the driveway due to the incline. She is getting plenty of gas to the carb. What have I done?????!!!! She will barely even rev!!! And yes the throttle control and linkage are working. The only problem I can find is that the plastic linkage on the back of the carb. is broken from that choke (?) control. I am so lost. It is like I have killed her and have no idea how. Any ideas??? I hope I haven't pissed away $1,000! I actually like the truck. I just can't figure what I have done to cause this.
