Hey guys (and gals if there are any), I'm new to the website kinda....I've had a user name for well over a year but never logged on or checked out the site much until recently. Anyways, I'm a big Nissan/Datsun fan since birth, and recently returned from living over in Japan for two years. I owned two 180sx's over there and loved them so I decided when I got back to the US to build one a bit more to my own liking. I swore that the next car I bought would be a convertible, so this summer I picked up a decent 1992 240SX in Houston for $3000. I bought a 180 front clip and combined it with all the parts I saved from my 180SX in Japan to create what you see here today. This is by no means my project car, but rather a nice daily driver. First pics are when I bought it, enjoy the evolution! I need to get a couple more recent pics, later perhaps. Just wanted to say hi and start sharing info with the rest of you Convertible/S13 owners out there. MINUS the gay black decalsAfter suspension, wheels, exhaustNew spoiler Test fitting side skirts (not installed yet though)Pulling out the crappy KA + AutoHidden pleasure...my favorite! Last pic for now

Welcome.

I have to admit that I usually don't find the pignose very attractive at all... BUT, with the skirts and wangan wing, it's a very sharp combination. Plus the wheels and lowering suspension look perfect. Nice job!

Keep us updated!

Great to see how this forum is growing!

Thanks guys, I try hard to keep it clean and simple. The pig nose wasn't by any means my idea, I usually prefer the newer style actually. The car was at some point in it's past in a pretty bad wreck and they pulled almost the entire front end off a banged up pig nose 240SX that was formerly red and patched and painted it up cheaply to see what you have here. Convertibles as far as I know never came with the pig nose ('91+) and I liked the idea of cutting out the noses for more airflow to the radiator/intercooler, so I left it there for now. I'd like to piece together a OEM Kouki front bumper for it later on, it'd be easy to throw an aftermarket on there but I don't care for crack-prone FRP. Unfortunately the spoiler and sideskirts I don't have much choice on that, but bumpers, hoods, and main body parts I like to keep OEM for strength and durability. I also plan on getting some non-bondo'd fenders and throwing on some coupe doors, a roll bar, Bomex rear under spoiler, and some race harnesses at some point in the future.

I've been driving it for a month now with the SR and despite needing a little more tuning it got up to 29 mpg's and might have hit ~137 mph recently on a deserted highway as well

The engine swap is about as clean as it can get here's the mods:

Redtop SR w/60,000 milesJet Hot coated SSAC manifoldS15 turbine @ 1.2 barZ32 MAFSRetuned ECU by Scott @ Stec550 injectors/255lph pump/Nismo FPRGreddy outlet, full stainless 80mm exhaust w/test pipeHKS Power Flow intakeHKS SSQVBlitz DSBC Spec RRPS Max Street ClutchBillet Steel 11lb flywheel29x12x3 bar and plate FMIC2.5" Stainless I/C pipingS13 2 way LSD (unknown make)JDM front brakes/sway barsTanabe Sustec Pro coilovers with pillow ball uppers all aroundTanabe Camber plates, pillow ball T/C rods, full pillow ball/adj. rear suspension (traction rods, upper control arms, etc)

There's more stuff but none of it's really important compared to the aforementioned items. This car is my daily driver so unless I blow the turbine sometime soon or break something, near future plans will be fine tuning it with a wideband/EGT/SAFC 2 and working out all the little bugs like stiffer engine/transmission mounts, hooking up the Cruise Control, getting the A/C to work again, aluminum radiator/electric fans, and new tires. Then maybe I'll look at a set of HKS 264 cams and gears since my ECU is already tuned for them. Other than that I don't plan on doing much else to this car as it is NOT my true project car

LOL you guys are too funny! I can't believe it's been revived and people are like "Welcome" as if it was my first intro and I just joined hahahaha okay well, thanks for the welcomes anyway.

Cripes, I don't even know what pictures are posted up on here because I'm deployed all the pics are blocked by the military and I can's see any of them. On top of that I don't have any access to my photobucket account cause it's blocked out here as well so I can't put current pictures of it up for another 45 days. I don't know where to start or continue on from! Well, lets see, I've got two 240SX's now, the vert and my wife's hatchback (in progress).

Since some of these old posts I've got a Kouki front end and side skirts on the car as well as a Bomex rear under spoiler and Bwave wangan style wing. The 17's I brought from Japan with me are getting ditched and sold when I get home for a set of either 16" black Watanabe RS-8's or 17" Work VS wheels...we've got both and my wife gets to pick which ones she wants on her car so it's up in the air right now. I threw in a set of Tomei 256 Pon Cams and the car was running great until I took a drive to my brother's house in New Mexico for Thanksgiving, I almost hit the biggest deer in the world and as a result made flat spots on my near new Goodyear Eagle F1's, and as a result of that vibrated off two turbo bolts and snapped one of the studs trying to make it home on the long drive, so my turbo was only being held on with 1 bolt/stud... finally ditched the tubular manifold for a stock ported manifold, the car ran GREAT but it started detonating and blew the head gasket back in January. Tore off the head to fix it and found that the detonation had eaten through the head gasket and into the block, head, and piston on #1 cylinder deteriorating the mating surface of the block/head requiring a complete overhaul and sleeve job which I haven't gotten to yet.

So, I just bought another SR20 motor set to throw in the car to get it back on the road while I rebuild the other one. Once it's rebuilt I'm not sure if the rebuilt engine will go in my car or my wife's but both our cars will be SR'd soon enough and the vert will be back up soon too. BEFORE it goes in this time I'm doing the headgasket so I don't run into this crap happening again, that plus I finally got a wideband to tune out the detonation too.

So thanks for diggin this up, I've been missing my car like crazy since I haven't driven it since January and it's just been sitting in the garage crying and pouting because I haven't had time/money to fix it until now. I will get home in October and the car should be back on the road in November. It's the funnest car I've ever owned....I just wish there were more twisties to play on in Texas.

Ok.. you pass. we'll let you stay around.

lol.

That 'vert is wicked hot! I love the type x front bumper.. and that rear wangan wing is pretty sweet as well. Not a fan of the different wheels.. but obviously that's for the purpose of drifting for that day.

The Datsun is damn cool as well. Must really fly being so light.

I remember this car. I think you posted "Post your 240" thread in gen chat. Anyways, I just noticed that you and I have same radiator cooling panels. Is that Renova or Garage Defend?

Nice vert!!! Glad to see your having some fun with your car,as we are. Also dig that "72". You don't see many of those around any more. I remember, back in 72,my mom bought a brand new 510 coupe. It was orange.I remember using it to learn to drive a stick for the first time in the driveway.Way cool car! Anyways, keep it real, and good luck with that project.

Thanks Eikon for letting me stay heheheh Yep the different wheels on back was for the sole reason of tearing up some free tires and having fun. I made my fastest lap the second I threw the Eagle F1's back on all around and that was on a wet track...still nobody's beat my time ;-)

The Datsun is my first love, so it's got the most $ and time invested. I've been driving a Datsun 1200 since my first car, so I can never NOT have one. It's a damn fast little car, almost too fast if that's even possible with 285 rwhp and only 1600 lbs...handles great too and I don't even have the front sway bar installed (oil pan clearance), only 1 second behind my 240 on the track.

The carbon cooling panel is Renova and I love it...sexes up the whole engine bay like double. I fell in love with the Kouki 180SX when I lived in Japan, so I had to have the same on my car when I moved back. It cost a bit to get on there, but I'd do it again in an instant...in fact I am, on my wifes hatchback is going the Kouki front, sides, and Bomex rear as well (except a GT-R type spoiler instead of wangan). The OEM Kouki stuff is strong and doesn't crack like FRP which was a great thing when a huge chunk of tire hit it at 80mph only a couple weeks after I installed it....a little bit of super glue and you can't even tell. If it was FRP it'd be toast. Thanks for the comments, I wasn't sure the pics would show up. I miss my cars so bad!

Ditto on that. I missed the last batch of Renova cooling panels, so I had to get Garage Defend. It hurt bad. You know what I mean?

I didn't know they just quit making them??! That's pretty gay. I remember my older brother trying to find one like mine and he couldn't. I was like oh come on, it's from Rennova, they're on ebay, but he'd get mad cause by then they had disappeared or something I guess. But I got mine

Seems we might be selling my wife's S13 hatchback in the next few months its not the right car for a pregnant woman unfortunately...but downsizing has it's rewards too. I can focus more on the others!!
