hello one and all. i am new to this site but far from new to the nissan/infiniti world! i been in the game for YEARS! owned 10+ b13 seR's. one p10 and 2 p11's. my sentras were allways all motor de or ve. my p10 was stock, and one of my p11's were boosted and my current p11 is a daily. my most recent b13 was stolen and antoher one i had was set to fire both in one night :wtf2: . thats what made me decide to get out of the game.

now, im trying to get into a altima seR within the next month. now one HUGE question i had. i heard the vq35 6 speed transmissions were HORRIBLE! so i been thinking automatic. can anyone vouch either way? good or bad as far as the trans situation goes? i love driving stick but i dont want to get into one if im going to be having a lot of transmission problems. any gurus out there can help make my decision easier? thank you :bowrofl:

Nissan automatics historically have reliability problems. I would avoid them in favor of a manual trans. Nissan has never been very good at building automatics. Even when they're not busy dying, they still don't perform very well.

My dad has a Maxima with the same 5 speed auto that's found in the Altima SE-R. It blew up late last year just outside warranty mileage. Both my auto-trans Nissans have sufferred catastrophic transmission failures. I wouldn't touch another automatic Nissan with a 50-mile pole. 3 for 3 failures is not a good record.

The last FWD Nissan I drove with a manual trans was a cute little N13 pulsar back in 2002, so I can't speak for the 6 speed.

i heard totally different. i have always been into the sr20 game. those transmissions go back and forth depending on how its driven (naturally you beat on your car your car will have problems) but im done with the street racing thing. i have a child and am looking for a nice reliable family sedan that i can also make a quick move on the highway if im running a bit late for work. naturally i was pulled to anotoher nissan, and of course the almighty 3.5 will have to be what i lean towards. im just curious what trans i should go with, auto or 6 speed. but thanks for the response sir. its greatly appreciated

Go manual. 7/10 Nissan automatics in the SE-R are s***. Mine is at 107k and I'm having trademark issues that almost every other auto SE-R guy has had. The fix is anywhere from a crankshaft position sensor for ones that get stuck in 5th gear or a big overhaul of the transmission and replacing the valve body. I have no idea how much longer I can run mine before total failure. I love my SE-R despite my problems with the paint and transmission. however I would reccomend you getting one just buy a 6spd.

It'd be pretty hard to get anyone in here to recommend an automatic of any kind. :yesnod
