A little introduction: I picked up a 95 Q45 for FREE, for my girlfriend, its a top. The car was smashed when i got it, so i quickly ordered a hood, bumper, and headlights, along with 6000k HID's and tinted the fog lights yellow. The car is essentially spotless besides for what the accident of the PO did to it.getting started:http://i40.photobucket.com/alb...s.jpgand now:http://i40.photobucket.com/alb...s.jpg

Here is a shot of my built and boosted mr2 (except now with more agressive wheels)http://i40.photobucket.com/alb...1.jpgand some winterized shots before i put it away for the winter:http://i40.photobucket.com/alb...7.jpgh ... lb...1.jpg

Now to the problem, the car is suddenly dead. Last night after filling it up on my way home (was fine starting at the gas station), once i pulled into my driveway and turned the car off it is now completely dead. not even the radio or door ajar lights go on. i checked all fuses and fusible links and everything is OK. On a jump the car has the same symptoms, no lights or anything.

Thanks in advance!

Use a voltmeter and start tracing a 12 volt signal from battery outward, somewhere there is a break in continuity.

The old q is a money hungry beast, requiring a monthly budget of $200-250 to maintain in good operating condition, not including cosmetics- AFTER you invest a few thousand upfront repairing/replacing old tired worn parts and repairing previous owner{s} neglect and shortcuts.

welcome to our Qommunity!!!!

i got this car from my moms boyfriend. he bought it for his daughter and put 2g worth of work and i have all receipts. like i said, its a top and has been nothing but turn key while ive had it.

parts are not cheap or easy to find for this car, i had to track down the hood and bumper and order them from junkyards in different states. but i have an mr2 so im used to havng to locate parts or special order almost everything.

$2000 worth of work is just scratching the surface when it comes to a old Q.....spend some time here reading and learning any you shall see......in perfect operating "top" condition, the Q will still require a budget of $250 for every month you plan to own it- forever!

The $250/month is a bargain compared to purchasing a new econobox.

i understand what your saying, but one im 18 and IF i did get approved for a new car it wouldnt be for 250 a month unless i used someone as a cosigner. and two im not into new cars and not being allowed to touch them while being under warrany.

can you guys elaborate and let me know what 14 year old car doesnt require a little up keep?

i currently own a 91 turbo mr2 and an 86 ramcharger thats been in my fam since brand new and is fully restored.

Trust me man dont be cheap when it comes to this car. I have a 92 i inheirieted from my family and the timing chain guides broke. i got myself a 94 motor and upgraded because all 1990 to 93's had plastic chain guides. i learned the hard way. As in ur case u got a good motor dont need to worry about those guides still dont be cheap because when u do, it will bite u in the a**. But if u went out and got the front end for ur Q then u really must be devoted. I swapped my engine out at least 4 times due to used engines being bad so i gave up on 92 and 93 motors and went on and got myself a 94. Did the conversion and that was the best decision i made it costed money but it was well worth it. when u spend money on ur q it will reward u. I have to thank Craig from Texas he helped me out on the CAS wiring now im rolling once again. I never thought i would ever drive my Q45 again and that made me very sad but thanks to Craig im once again rolling. Im a 17 year old who has been through alot with his berry colored Q45. Dont be cheap man just dont at the end its not worth it. I went through hell but came out alive and well. NICO has lots of info on our Q45's especially the early G50 body. Plus us Nico guys always help out a fellow members in need. Good luck with ur 95. Nice H.I.Ds by the way im going to do that next

Did you check the most simplest thing of all....Your battery? It may be dead or may just need a charge, that's what my Q needed when I first got it.

P.S. I'm 17 also so don't feel like your the youngest one on the forum!

i dont go cheap with my cars, you should see the build list on just the motor of my mr2, just need a ct27 and a rom tune to make a RELIABLE 330hp.

Brake applied while trying to shift right?

Have you checked the alternator? And as far as battery is concerned... corrosion can build up inside the connection enough so that you lose your connection to the battery; therefore, alternator can't charge it, jumper cables can't boost it... if it's questionable go ahead and glean em off real good and try again. If your battery is DEAD DEAD, jumping it will not always work, as that is only an "aide." Also keep in mind that you are trying to jump a V8, so jump it with a car that's got some a** to match. Classic cases of alternator AND battery being bad have results just like this.

the battery tested great, and the terminals look good and clean. when i was trying a jump i had my truck with a 360 V8 hooked up to it for about 15 minutes and their was still no sign and not even a light on.

"unless infiniti's are different"

When one acquires a different vehicle the SMART thing to do is to read and reread EVERY WORD in the specific owners manual.

If one wants to repair a problem then do as the technicans do, download and print the thousands of pages in the specific year Factory Service Manual.

Their 2 years of trade school training [in AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY] help them select the specific sections inside the FSM and have prepared them to use the tools and test equipment they have available.

Well, logically I would say either your car's not hooked to the battery in one way or another or that 100amp fuse or other following fuses have gone.

check that hood pin too, you know, the one that lets the car know the hood is down. It will not start (safety feature) if that pin is not pressed down. Do you have an after market alarm on the car? There is a level balance that must be level on most alarms or it won't start, or do anything for that matter. I've been there with my viper remote start alarm after leaving the hood open for a week while doing the ks and under plenum hoses.

i replaced the 100amp and 120amp fuses because they had some corrosion on them but that didnt help any.

wheres this hood pin at? because it is likely that is frozen with the weather up here right now. other than that, their is no aftermarket alarm. but about a week before this happened i put a new cd player in for my girlfriend. but nothing went wrong there and the car was working great..

ill try spraying some ether around the hood latch to melt all the ice off and mess with it a little, i hate working out in this weather and i cant get it in the garage because it wont come out of park

It is on the right hand side of the hood (if your looking at it open) about half way down, but if you do not have an aftermarket alarm, its probably not it....

Did you tap into wires or splice? Maybe something shorted. Check the alternator fuse and relay (if applicable) too.
