Hi all, My mom finally crossed over and bought a nissan!. I have a 99Q45 and a 97qx4. My mom recently purchased a 03 maxima (got a great deal by the way) and I don't have any idea why when she uses the automatic roll-up feature on the master window switch the windows go all the way up then roll back down about four inches. I figure this is some sort of factory option but I have had no luck with researching a reprogramming instruction. do any of you guys have any insight?

WELCOME TO NICO!!! The greatest Nissan forum on earth!!!

Not sure, but it sounds like the window is not tripping the switch to shut off at the top of roll up. The auto up switch has a sensor attached so that if your kid puts his hand in there it won't get crushed, or if the window is trying to roll up too far, it will trigger the "save kids hand" mode. Look at your owners manual, that's where I remember this info from.

Had the same thing happen on my 01 maxima.

With the help of the technical service manual on CD produced by Nissan on the 2002 and 2003 Maxima I now have located the quick fix for a problem I have had since purchasing my used 2002 SE a few months ago. That is the drivers door window one-touch up function for the window was not working properly. The window would go up to the top and then retreat about 5 inches back down again. This problem is due to the limit switch needing to be reset which at first I thought would be a considerable job (to take off the door panel etc.) but ended up being literally a 2 minute job as the door panel can remain in place. My dealer wanted $85 CDN for the switch reset which I knew was a rip off before I found the fix procedure myself. I know several '02 and '03 Maxima owners have had this same problem as I saw earlier threads referencing it but no-one then appeared to know the fix. Alhough this procedure is simple once you do it, my description seems long as I wanted to be a descriptive as possible since I can't provide pictures. So here it is:

Step 1: Pry the plastic cap up off the bottom centre of the door pull handle and remove the single philips screw.

Step 2: Remove the whole switch panel (in which the door pull handle sits) by prying it up from the back end either with a flat edged screwdriver or table knife (under cloth) or by hand which is what I did. It is just clipped in so should come out relatively easily sliding it up at the back and then pulling it back.

You can now see the inside of the door from where the switch finishing plate sat. You can leave the wiring all attached and simply hang the switch and handle plastic assembly to one side so you can see the inside of the door.

Look inside towards the front bottom of the door behind the plastic vapour barrier you will see a small black switch. It almost looks like a black pan screw head. This is the reset switch but there is a sequence to now doing the actual reset procedure. The switch doesn't really feel like one when you press it through the plastic liner which incidentally you don't need to cut (at least I didn't have to). It is a switch that is only on when you are pressing it otherwise when released it is off.

STEP 3: Make sure the window is closed (up) completely. Turn the ignition on so the windows are receiving power.

a) Press the reset switch (and keep it pressed in) and open (down) the window completely (manually -NOT with AUTO ONE TOUCH DOWN FUNCTION).b) Release the reset switch. Then close the window completely (manually only - NOT AUTO UP).c) The limit switch is now reset. Easy!!!

This procedure worked for me straight away as I hope it will for you should you have this annoying problem. The Nissan manual does caution you not to use the one touch UP-DOWN function during this procedure so be warned.__________________

What a HUGE asset this post was. I had the same problem just a month ago on my A33 I35 and took to the dealer as it was still under warranty. They claimed they put some "lube" on the window it "fixed" it. Guess what.... as soon as I left same problem still. I'm beginning to think even buying an extended warranty might be a ripoff. With 3,000 miles to go for warranty, what do you think I should do????

Very nice. I have this problem with the passenger side window. At first, it only happened once in a while, now it is constant and I use the manual up function. My last maintenance with Nissan I asked them to look at it and they "could not reproduce the problem" and stated if it still happened then the fix would be a $450 window motor

I should have know it couldn't be that easy... My car is such a lemon.

Any other ways to correct this window thing? Is there a trick to the steps that Im missing?

I found a little black thing that looked/felt like a button, but it didn't do anything... Would anyone happen to have a picture of the reset button, or could anyone take a pict for me so I know Im pushing on the right thing?

Good info. My Nissan service rep wants to replace the window motor. I didn't even ask how much. The motor works fine, just does that drop. Holding the auto switch in the up position for a few minutes overrides the drop down and allows me to get through the car wash. One question on the instructions - my 2003 GLE doesn't have a manual function (does it??). What about the "Not with auto one touch function" step? Any tips or clarification? Thanks!!

Workaround - A friend smarter than I suggested running it up (auto) then press the window lock, then release the window button. It worked, the window stayed up - tho I had to work on the the press-release combo a few times to nail the sequence ( poor coordination). Good Luck!

I could name a list of things BUT I would really like to know what's wrong with your window. Like what is the problem you are having

EDIT: are you having the same problem with the auto up feature?

EDIT 2: after doing a quick search, I found that the window regulators seem to be the source of the problem. I will report back with more info

Edit 3: Hope this helps

Your Window Regulator needs to be reset, here is the procedure posted by another member:
Driver window one touch up RESET procedure - TIP!!

Here is a clarification edit of asianstyle's post for window reset switch with directions / photos from a 2003 Infiniti I35:

1) Remove window control switch assembly from door arm rest: Pry up the switch assembly from the rear until it breaks free as shown in photo (you may think you are about to break something as you keep prying up with more force, but this is what it takes and nothing came close to breaking for me). Pull switch assembly back and out, and let switch assembly hang from its harness, so you have access to the cavity where the reset switch is located.

2) Locate the reset switch: If you look down the cavity created by removing the control assy, there is a black reset switch kinda hidden behind the flexible translucent plastic door liner, about 5” below the surface of arm rest. See yellow arrow in photo. You will have to press and hold that reset switch in the next step (no need to cut the plastic liner, the switch can be pressed through the outside). You may be able to press the reset switch with your finger in the limited space available, but I found it easier to insert a big screwdriver blade sideways down the cavity and use the door panel as a pry location to press and hold the switch. See photo.

3) Reset Switch procedure: make sure the window is closed (up) completely. Turn the ignition on so the window switch is powered. Then:

a) Press the reset switch (and keep it pressed in), and open (down) the window completely (manually hold switch lightly so NOT to activate AUTO ONE TOUCH down function).
b) Release the reset switch. Then close the window completely (manually only - NOT AUTO UP).
c) The limit switch is now reset. Shut ignition off, then on and make sure the Auto-Up works.

(unfortunately I was not able to add the photos. I saw no button like "Attach Photo" from my hard drive. The FAQ says "Attachment permissions are granted on a per forum, per group, or per user basis." So perhaps this feature is disabled. If not, then if someone can contact me with directions, I will add the photos)
