I'm new to the kat or boosting any car for that matter. i have always had car that were turbo from the factory.

any who i have finally chosen to do the kat over the sr for a few reason (please correct me if I'm wrong or missing some info) i could to a full build and a mild turbo set up for about the same price as swapping in a sr. also parts are much easier to come by and around here not many people leave the ka in the car.

on to what i want out of the kat. i would like to get around 300-350hp. i am thinking of getting the AMS KA24DE Advanced Rebuild Kit for $1700 which includes:Arias STOCK BORE Pistons with 8.8:1 Compression Ratio AMS/Turbo240 Pro Series Connecting Rods Clevite Main and Rod Bearings Fel-pro Full Engine Gasket Set Mr. Gasket Copper Exhaust Manifold Gasket Arp Main/Head Studs Cometic Head Gasket All the Necessary Timing Assembly Replacement Parts

I'm not sure on what i need to accomplish this goal but I'm sure i will need to upgrade the fuel system. with walbro 255l fuel pump and larger injectors(don't know what size) fuel rail and some other parts i don't know about.

i have no clue on what turbo set up i want to run because basically i don't know **** about turbos except how they work.

as you can tell i am very very new to the kat and have very little clue about what i am talking about. some advice would be nice and yes i have search and will continue to search.

i plan on having all the parts i need to fully build the top and bottom end within 8 months and all turbo parts 4 months later.

thanks in advance

I'm not going to tell you to search, but read the top two stickies in here. The FAQ has a ton of great links and the other is a really good layout of what you're looking to do. Aside from building the block that is.

As a rule of thumb, you need to set a couple goals for yourself. These include the power you want to make and the budget you have to work with.

Also figure out what the car will be used for the most. Is it a car that's a daily driver with the occasional drag strip blast? OR is it more for road course type racing. This will help pick out the proper turbo and trim. Which will of course decide what manifold etc you'll need to buy.

Then you'll need to figure out what you want to do for fuel management. If you don't have any experience your best bet is a pre tuned ecu, like a JWT, Enthalpy or Emance. They will be plug and play. You just have to be sure to get the size injector that the ecu is tuned for.

wd really summed it up, read the stickies in the kat, then do as much pre build stuff as you can.

Keep in mind the turbo is going to need water or oil or both, and the appropriate supply will be needed. As for fuel you will want a decent size injector for 350whp, you dont need a top feed rail there are plenty of side feed injectors that flow enough. But topfeed is pimp and still an option! You might as well get a 300zx filter or even aftermarket fuel filter would be good here.

I wouldnt even look into t2 flanged turbos granted a few t28 series snails can flow pretty good but still....

alot of things are going to come down to your goals vs budget. Its a constant battle for most of us

Buy a second block. Throw in some forged pistons and eagle rods. stock hg and maybe some crower cams. Then buy my turbo kit or one similiar. Get some 555cc injectors and z32mafs and fuel pump. Then get an Enthalpy ecu.Post vids of your kills.

Roger that!A t3/4 set up will easily get you the power goals you have set. Buy smart and don't cheap out, and you will love your ka-t.

For your power goals you really dont need that AMS kit. Save your cash to spend on top notch turbo parts(manifold, wastegate, turbo) and just boost a stock block. Or just get a simple rebuild, personally the next Ka i build is going to have forged pistons and thats it. The pistons are your weak link for the Ka.

Like FL said, get a second motor and build that one to the hills on your spare time with spare change. Best way to go IMO.

Also, if your rebuilding your motor you should just go ahead and get your cylinders bored out. You want fresh cyl walls with new rings.

I'm making 280rwhp and 280 ft/lbs on my set up right now. my kat is rebuilt, running 550's and the 255 pump. Turbo wise, i have the t3/t4 turbonetics turbo and turbonetics bov and wastegate holding 15psi. I would also recomend a log style turbo manifold. And definitly get the rebuild kit from ams, they are reliable. As soon as i get the money, i'm going stage 2 cams, since i have stock right now, and should easily make over 300 to the wheels. I also got my car tuned here in VA at millenium racing development and chose to go with the apexi safc neo,(it gets the job done and is affordable). Hope any of this helps. And if you havnt already, check out http://www.hopupracing.com for parts and such, they offer free shipping and are good on prices. keep in touch on your plans for your ka-t. -rick
