Hey, whats up guys? I am new to the import scene (as the subject states :) and was wondering if you guys had any advice for me on getting read up on car knowledge. I've always been a fan of tuning, but never had a car of my own to learn from. I know the basics, but now my dreams maybe coming true as i am about to sell my '98 Maxima and buy a 1998 240sx. Do you guys know where i can gain a greater knowledge about the inner workers of this car outside of reading magazines (as that is all i have done). I know ill learn a lot just by having the car and tinkering with it, but any newbie knowledge is appreciated. I plan on getting the car in the next 2-3 months and shipping it straight to XAT for a SR20DET engine swap. i would do this myself, expect that none of my friends are really into the import scene so i dont know where to begin. Once i get the car back, i hope to get to work on the suspension. Im looking at the Tein Flex Coilovers and some Tanabe strut bars. But again, i only know about these products from magazines and the endless internet researching ive done. If you guys have any personal advice you can bestow on me, Ill greatly appreciate it. This would be so much easier if I had friends who knew a thing or two about import tuning, but at the moment im alone on this hobby. i bet when they see my Kouki 240sx drifting around Austin, they'll come around :)

Thanks in advance

p.s. im a college student with a large amount of disposable income cause i got a badass job that pays a ton. ive been sitting on this money for a year now, with nothing to spend it on. i guess now ive found it's use

yeah thats the plan. but XAT can convert an auto to a 5speed for $350. so im basically looking for the 98 240sx in the best physical condition and at the cheapest price. hopefully i can find something in the $5,000-$6,000 range. the engine swap is gonna cost a cool $5700 + tax and shipping + 5speed conversion if i need it. so im budgeting around $13000 for the car and engine (hopefully). another hopefully is that i can get 5-6 grand for my 98 maxima. it was formerly my mom's, and she isnt the greatest driver (has dings, been in some accidents, but still runs fine). if the maxima money can get me the 240sx ill be cool. otherwise ill have to work overtime a couple weeks to get the diff.

wow dude, if you ever happen to find a 98 for that price, you gotta tell me where you got it from. because i usually see the 96 and 95 go for that price in good condition.

yeah..... a 98 240sx alone goes for around 10k - 12k.I got my 95 240sx for $4500 from a nice asian family in oaklandBut if you really wand that lovely kouki front end, just buy a 95-96 and just buy the stuff to convert it, would be cheaper than buying a 98, and since your dropping a newer motor and transmission in it anyway, the age or mileage of the car doesnt matter much.

( And I'm guessing the 5 speed conversion is so cheap because they will use parts from the jdm front clip to do it, right? )

thanks for the info. i might need to go back to the drawing boards on this one...

yeah thats my guess, i just saw something on their website that said they will convert it to a 5-speed for an additional $350-500.

i was hoping i could find a 98 240sx with a blown engine for that price. but i guess that would be pushing my luck.

Trims: Trade-In - Private Party - Dealer RetailCoupe 2 Door (4 Cyl.) $4,900 - $5,600 - $7,250

Coupe 2 Door SE (4 Cyl.) $5,775 - $6,600 - $8,350

Got ya, but they're going to go for the high end of those prices because they are in very high demand and rare.

Supply and Demand will cause a nice condition, 5 speed, SE 97/98 to be a bit higher than what the websites say.
